09/07/20  What a remarkable difference a week can make in a fosters life.  Kane has destressed, relaxed a lot since his arrival, and he is enjoying being a part of the pack.  My own dogs consist of an 8 yr old boxer, 4 year old Boston Terrier both males, and a 2 yr. old Beabull female.  Kane being 3 yrs. old himself, well you can guess the amount of fun he's discovered in playing with them.  My Boston is only 19 lbs, and my boxer has a cardiac condition, and my little bully girl has only been with me for a month.....fear not, they are so funny to watch, a 70 lb. old english bull dog Kane, playing with dogs much smaller than he is.  He figured out in no time at all, how to make himself smaller (laying down on the deck mostly) to wrestle around with them.  I've actually included videos of their play time. How impressive is that he is smart enough to figure out how to play and not hurt the smaller ones.

Kane's neuter went smoothly, and he is healing beautifully, and has a voracious appetite, so be prepared to have a very enthusiastic feeder.  Breakfast and dinner he will be very excited, so I do keep him in his own room behind a baby gate, simply because I believe all dogs should have no challenges to their food. He will sit on command for his meals, but you do need to excersize some speed when you put down his food, because he is fast and enthusiastic to eat.  Being food motivated, this will actually make his training easier as we continue forward.  He's very strong on leash, so quality training is a must for Kane and the benefits will out weigh to cost by a well behaved boy.  He's so worth it, as he really is an awesome boy.

We did have visitors this week, and again, more exposure is needed, as he gets very nervous and energetic response to meeting new people.  But he is friendly with everyone, and when Kane has calmed down after someone arrives, which usually takes about 5 to 10 minutes, he was wed to come out and meet them, and he's shown nothing but friendly attitude.

More to come about this handsome boy as the week goes forward, so do check back soon.

09/02/20   Kane returned after his neuter and he was a very good boy while hospitalized overnight.  I'm so impressed with this boy and his happy go lucky attitude.  He is cautious with strangers, but is friendly with me, and at the same time, although he is happy to see people, he definitely needs some time to settle and warm up to new people.  This is simply lack of exposure to strangers...he neither growls or barks at people, again, he just needs more exposure and confidence in meeting people and being in different situations.

Although Kane lived with young children, it is best that his new home has older children who can handle his size and energy level.  When Kane meets you he is likely to jump up on you simply from lack of education on his part.  He will sit on command, but will still jump as well.  Consistent training will improve this, and all will be happier as a result, including Kane.

We have also had the opportunity to expose Kane to car rides, and he seems to really rather like the experience.  He jumps in, circles a few times, then settles down and naps.  Can't really ask for better than that, so far he is also unconcerned when someone approaches the car when he's in it.  Again, I think exposure and quality professional training is the most important advice I would give anyone who wants to make Kane a member of the family.

Kane also has been separated from my own dogs, simply because he was neutered Monday, and needs to heal...however my bulldog girl, snuck thru the gate on me this morning and Kane was thrilled to have company.  Another day or two before that can happen, as I really want his neuter incision to heal before he starts playing with the dogs.  And he does want to play, he was just very happy to meet my bulldog who is 1/4 his size and was all set to have fun.  Ooops , no romping yet for this handsome boy.

08/31/20 We welcomed handsome man Kane into rescue yesterday. He's an owner surrender to us, and he'd like to thank his transporters for their patience and understanding of his stress when coming into rescue. Kane investigated the yard upon arrival and investigated the house and checked out his crate ,ate a little dinner and settled in for the night.

So check back soon to read more about this beautiful boy.
