12/27/23-Aurora has been with us almost a month now. Within that month she’s learned how to sit, stay, crate herself, walk on a leash, and go up and down stairs. She rides well in the car, but does need to be lifted in since she’s still figuring that part out. Aurora likes cats and other dogs. I do think she would truly blossom even faster if she was to be placed within a home that has another resident dog to help her learn how to be a dog. Aurora does well with the resident kitty, no signs of aggression, just playful curiosity. They eat together and have been caught snoozing together on the doggy bed. Some men make her nervous at first introduction, woman and older children 10+ she warms up to quickly with treats. She has not been exposed to young children, but I think she would do OK with them seeing as she is gentle, does not jump up, and hasn’t once been mouthy… even in a game of tug of war. Lol
Potty breaks are scheduled in the morning, afternoon, dinner, and before bed. Aurora doesn’t always go when given the chance and has made it from breakfast to dinner at her choice. She’s also able to make it through the night without issue. Potty seems to be a challenge ONLY when tied out or on a leash. Once she’s taken off leash, she’ll go almost instantly. A fenced in yard or an outdoor kennel run would make easier bathroom breaks. She also doesn’t bark or whine to signal to go out. A regular scheduled potty routine has prevented accidents in the home. No signs of separation anxiety, but will shred paper or tissue if she gets her paws on it. Shoes, socks, and kids toys on the floor have been safe thus far! Aurora hasn’t climbed on the bed or other furniture unless invited. She’s still learning how to cuddle, but gives the best kisses! It will take some time with proper decompression for Aurora to come around and show you her boxer wiggle. But rest assured she will be your best walking/hiking buddy and car ride Copilot once she warms up. She’s a well mannered, house broken pup, that is an absolute sweetie when given the proper time to trust you. She’s been a perfect house guest! Time and patience is key here!
12/18/23-Those eyes get me every time! Today was a day of progress. Aurora figured out the Kong is hers to play with and enjoy. She also started sitting on command. Victory! I took advantage of our sit/stay training and snapped a few photos. In just a week Aurora can sit with verbal or hand commands. Stay is still a work in progress but she’s making progress every day!
12/10/23-Aurora arrived yesterday into foster care. She is busy investigating, taking in all the new sights and sounds. She’s a curious polite lady, loves snuggles, and of course loves treats! Aurora is great in the car and walks very well on the leash. She’s quickly learning what stairs are and how to use them. We’re working on potty training and sit. She’s not yet adjusted to sitting on the furniture or her doggy bed, but loves when you sit on the floor with her to play or cuddle on a blanket. She showed playful interest and curiosity with our cat but it is too soon to say if she would be ok to live with cats. I do think with a few more days and a dog savvy cat, it could be harmonious. Aurora really is a gentle, loving pup that will follow you around like a shadow. I can’t wait until she is more relaxed to show us her boxer wiggle!
12/7/23-Aurora is a gorgeous, very sweet 4 year old boxer. She was saved from being killed by a puppy mill as they just got done breeding her. She arrived safely into rescue tonight thanks to her transport & overnight volunteers. She does have conjunctivitis in her eyes so she is on an oral antibiotic & cream too to clear that up. She is being spayed next week on Wednesday 12/13 & will be ready to go home soon after that. More updates soon on this wonderful girl!
