6/27/24-After a few more days of patience & love, Toby is making strides! He now will go up & down the stairs all by himself! He still has not had any accidents in the house and we couldn’t be more proud of him! When we go outside, he stays right next to me even if I drop the leash as a test. He does not like being tethered to a long lead so he’d really love a fenced yard to run around freely & safely! We took a pack walk tonite with my dogs and his little legs did pretty well keeping up but the leash is a little scary so he will need training in his new home. He didn’t seem to care much when loud cars drove by on our walk. We are still working on getting Toby to feel comfy in the house. He does a little anxious running around as if he doesn’t know what he’s supposed to do. He will “check in” with me while I’m in another room but will run back to his crate frequently. The crate is his safe space. I think he mostly looks forward to evening snuggles on the couch as he gets to be close to foster mom/dad & he gets lots of belly rubs. Tonite he surprised us by chewing on a nylabone for the first time! This boy is figuring out how to be a good little doggie with time & consistency.
6/24/24-Sweet little boy Toby has been with us for just a few days and we are starting to see him come out of his shell. When he first arrived, he would barely move. And if he did, it was to find a quiet corner or my shower to hide in. When outside, he fought the leash and all he wanted to do was duck behind a bush or brush. He didn’t want to be pet or picked up and would run away from me. This poor boy! But with patience, some sweet talk, and a comfy bed, he’s now realizing he is safe & life is getting better every day! He will now follow me around the yard (on leash) and lets me reach down to pat his head or scratch his little chin. He isn’t into toys and doesn’t play yet but gets along fine with my pack of dogs. He’s learning to relax on the couch with the fam and has even been giving us tiny kisses. He’s starting to venture around the house and we’ve been keeping him on schedule for potty so no accidents in the house, or his crate. He doesn’t do stairs but I expect as his confidence grows, he’ll master them quickly. He’s not a big eater but I leave kibble in his crate and he munches thru the day/night. This boy has shown so much potential in such a short time, I can’t wait to see what the next few days bring!
6/22/24-Poor Toby wanted to crawl under my car dash on the way home. But after some luvs, intros and quiet time, he’s starting to relax. He has a yeast infection in his ears he is being treated for. More updates as he adjusts to life in a home. Toby will be ready to go home soon.
06/21/24-Toby is an adorable 5 month old red male cockapoo (standard poodle/cocker spaniel). They are larger sized cockapoos, so most likely had a standard instead of mini poodle as one parent. He came in with his brother from a commercial breeder as they just got too old to sell. They arrived into rescue tonight thanks to their transport & temporary foster volunteers. He was neutered & is smaller than his brother so we estimate he will only get to be around 30 lbs full grown max. These puppies won’t be here long!
