MEET ROXANNE

11/23/24-Roxanne has written her letter to Santa and she’s hoping he will bring her a furever family for her to love! She’s continuing to show excellent adjustment to living in a house and becoming a family dog.  Her little wispy tail is wagging all the time.  She is so excited when we come home that she spins in circles.  She plays a game of chase with us every night and is learning to love playing with toys.  She is just such a happy and fun little girl!  Roxanne is a very quiet dog.  She barks once in awhile when the other dogs and her people are outside and she’s alone in the house, but she quiets right down when we tell her to.  She does this cute little thing where she’ll put her front paws on your chair and wag her tail to ask for petting and then she’ll kiss your hand like crazy when you reach down to pet her.  This little sweetie has so much love and joy to give.  Will you be the special person she shares that love with?

9/29/24-Roxanne is doing great and is ready to dance her way right into the hearts of her furever family!  She trots around the house with her tail in the air almost all of the time now.  Her confidence is really growing every day.  She went on her second camping trip with us and did really great.  She’s still timid in busy public areas, but she is becoming more brave with a lot of reassurance from us.  She goes to the bathroom outside just about every time we let her out so she doesn’t have many accidents in the house.  She’s still working on letting us know when she needs to go out.  She’s such a cute little sweetie. Don’t miss out on this great girl!

9/10/24-Roxanne is doing really great!  She is now about 90% house trained.  She rarely has accidents in the house, and has picked up on what she needs to do when she goes outside.  As long as we stay on top of letting her out frequently, she does very well.  Her confidence and trust in humans has grown significantly, and she is no longer exhibiting any guarding behavior.   She is still a little skittish and cowers when we put the leash on or if there is a sudden loud noise.  Once the leash is on, she is fine.  She continues to love being with her doggy friends and would be great with another dog or if not with her people.  When the other dogs are not in the house and she is in her crate, she barks, but she doesn’t bark if she’s not in her crate.  She just runs around looking for her pals.  This behavior might decrease over time if she got used to being in a home without other dogs.  Overall she’s a very quiet dog and loves her crate.  She’s very curious about the cats and is very tolerant of them rubbing up against her and being feline friendly.  Roxanne enjoys her walks and trots right along on the leash with her tail in the air.  She has learned to go up a few steps into the house, but she hasn’t quite had the courage to go down the steps yet.  She eats really well.  She went on her first camping trip and seemed to enjoy it.  She got lots of lap time and cuddles around the campfire which she thought was especially nice!  She quickly adjusted to a new living experience in our camper and being outside with us most of the time.  She was happy to return to her favorite spot at home in the living room though.  She seems to be very easy to train.  She pulled shoes off of a shoe rack in our entryway a few times over a couple of days.  We simply told her “no” and put the shoes back on the shelf.  She hasn’t done it again (and didn’t chew anything).  She loves to chew Nylabones and is willing to share them with her doggy foster siblings.  Roxanne has also started dancing! She started doing this on her own whenever the chicken comes out.  LOL Roxanne is the sweetest little girl and she will be a very loving pet for her people in her furever home!  She will be spayed on September 16th and will be ready to go home to her new family after that.

8/23/24-Roxanne feels like a new woman after her visit to the groomer this morning!  Got rid of all of her mats and she smells wonderful.  She has a little bounce in her step as she’s been trotting around the house showing off her new look since we got home.  She has started to show a little jealousy with attention & guarding of her crate with the other dogs now that she’s living a home life.  These few times she has made a very quiet and brief growl, a couple if times in her crate when the door to her crate was closed and my dog Daisy walked close to the crate, and once when she was on my lap and Daisy walked up to me.  I gave her a firm “no” and she stopped and hasn’t done it again.  No food guarding at all so far, it seems more about space.  However, that said, she has no issues with the other dogs sharing her crate if the door to her crate is open (see photo).  And no snapping or even showing her teeth.  I’m confident she’s very trainable.  It may be best if she were with little older kids who could understand to correct her if this happened.  She LOVES the other 2 dogs, so I feel confident she would do well living with other dogs.  In fact, the only time she has cried and barked is when she’s in the house by herself and the other 2 have been outside for a few minutes.  She’s an absolute sweetheart.  She seems very eager to learn and is highly motivated by chicken.  We’re still perfecting our rescue Daisy’s sit, and Roxanne is already picking up on the sit command when we’re practicing with Daisy!
