1/24/22 – Loveable, smart, goofy wonderful Sarge. There aren’t enough words to describe him. Every day just gets better as Sarge comes out of his shell more and more. The most important thing about this Boxer boy, he LOVES kids. His personality completely changed with the arrival of his 5-year-old foster human brother after a few days of acclimating to the house without him. Coming from a home with children, and really opening up with a child here, we know Sarge needs a home with one or even more kids around for him to play with.
Sarge is clearly a very smart boy. His recall is fantastic, he sits and stays without question, and is currently trained not to come up on furniture (though his foster family has introduced him to the comfy world of couches). Sarge sleeps in his crate at night comfortably but would love to sleep on the floor next to your bed. His foster family hasn’t allowed that transition quite yet as he has been a little territorial of his favorite spots in his new place, even marking some of those spots once, but that can be normal as an owner surrender settles into their new environment. Aside from that, he is completely house trained. He doesn’t seem to be much of a talker, as we haven’t heard a bark or a whine come out of him yet.
Though his house mate, Milo, loves to play…at 9 months old he can be a little much for Sarge. He remains calm and disengaged when he doesn’t want to play, and Milo has started to take the hint. Once Milo learned Sarge doesn’t love the jumping, they’ve started to have a few great play romps! It seems like Sarge could do well in a home with even another dog that isn’t his brother, but it takes him some time to warm up.
Sarge has some hilarious tricks, we’ve started calling him our circus dog. He loves to play volleyball…literally! He uses his goofy boxer jump to hit the ball with his nose and keep tapping it up into the air playing with you! One of his absolutely favorites to play with is a balloon.
Sarge had his first trip out of the house to Home Depot a few days ago, and while he did great in the store, he doesn’t love the car. This could be due a new fear after transport leaving his home, so we’ll keep trying. More to come on Sarge!
