11/25/24-Merry has changed so much this week, made such awesome progress. She is coming into the living room when I’m there just chilling with my boston and my boxer girl.  She’ll come in from outside on her own and lay down by the gate and  just relax until I stand up, then she looks for a place to run to…..but the fact she’s coming into the house on her own is spectacular to me.  She is also ready to go in her crate when I have to leave, and will now run behind me knowing there are cookies in her crate waiting just for her.  She’s just about a foot away from me at that point and for her, that’s big progress.  I’m still “scary” most of the time, but I can now reach down and touch her if she’s scooting by me, and I get more and more tail wags out of her every day. She shows no aggression or desire to snap but due to her skittishness which will take time to overcome, Merry would be better in a home without a ton of activity with lots of kids. Along with her newly developed confidence she is eating much better and is on 3 cups of food split into 2 meals, as she is still growing at 9 months old. This girl is going to make someone very happy, but she has more work to do. She’ll be worth the work.

11/13/24-Oh, Miss Merry is a very sweet girl.  She is very shy, but is really trying very hard to adapt to her never experienced new life.  She is much better in the house with me, and when I’m sitting down, will venture over to me, and will sniff my outstretched hand, and will also wag her tail when I talk to her. She wants attention especially when she sees me hugging and kissing my boxer girl, and she’ll again wag her tail and venture even closer.  When I stand up however she runs away from me to the security of the nearest corner.  This is pretty typical behavior and she really is trying very hard to over come this.  Right now I’ve been holding her leash while she’s in the same room as I’d like to curb the “flight” impulse, and show her that just because I’m always busy doing things, I’m not going to harm her.  She’ll get it, as the progress is already showing. She has a beautiful soft coat, and has absolutely beautiful markings for a Bernedoodle, and she is also a big girl at 68 lbs,  she has the cutest white streak that is on the top of her head that actually looks like a part of a skunk’s tail.  She did arrive with a very long scruffy coat, but another foster home, JoAnn and daughter Allysa gave her a wonderful haircut, and turned her into a glamor princess, she looks wonderful and has to feel so much better now after her beauty treatment. Although Merry doesn’t really play with my dogs yet, she likes having them around and does pick up on some of their cues. like coming when I call them, she’s not quiet ready to respond on her own yet, but she’s a very smart girl. Merry is being spayed tomorrow and I’ll report back as we get to know her better for her future forever home.

m JoAnn: So far so good, she had to be assisted upstairs, most of haircut is done, she’ll be ready for pick up Monday night. She was so good and our dog Coco was very chill with her! Merry liked hiding in the hydrangeas! I actually thought she escaped! LOL She likes my daughter, is ok with my husband and of course she liked me. She also tried to bury herself in the leaves a few times. Cute actually!

11/9/24-Merry is very scared right now & tries to hide from me & from my young boxer Greta…..a sad girl at the moment. Not a “merry” girl at all. The first “before”pictures of her are next to a 4 foot high gate & you can see her size better.  She’s a big sweet, scared bear. She’s is spending the next day or so with our volunteer JoAnn who is going to groom Merry as her coat is in very rough shape right now with lots of matts. She was actually outgoing with JoAnn and her adult daughter Alyssa, which shocked me.

11/08/24-Merry is a very beautiful 9 month old Standard bernedoodle (standard poodle/bernese mountain dog). She came in from a commercial breeder as she just got too old to sell. She arrived safely into rescue today thanks to her transport & overnight volunteers. She is a very big girl & definitely got more of the bernese size! We estimate she will be about 80 lbs full grown. She is being spayed next Thursday 11/14 & she will be ready to go home soon after that.
