5/15/25-You snooze, you lose! Lulu doesn’t mind sharing her bed with the cats.
Lulu is doing very well. She was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection(UTI), got antibiotics & is recovering just fine. She was a total hit at her pre-spay appointment and at the emergency vet for her UTI issue. Nervous, but allowed the techs and vets to examine her. Due to vet backups her spay is not until Tuesday July 1st, but hopefully there is a cancellation so we can get her in sooner., although I am over the moon the keep her with us as long as necessary. She does well with cats, obviously, and gets along well with dogs. She does take some time to warm up to people, but that’s pretty normal considering her past. Her favorite thing to do is to be with her human. She loves cuddling and snoozing, so she needs a home where she is allowed on furniture and in your bed. Sorry, not sorry! Lol
5/15/25-Forgot to add in Lulu’s update that the 2nd vet that checked her out agreed she does have just a grade 2 heart murmur. This is considered a low grade murmur & no medication or follow up needed now. It is just something to note as she gets older to monitor at yearly vet visits & to watch.
4/24/25-Ms. Lulu is doing so well. It seems like she has lived here forever, but it has only been 2 weeks! She knows the routine, comes when called, walks excellent on leash, no accidents, and gets along with dogs and cats! She’s is the WHOLE package. She welcomed Sucré with open paws. I was a little worried with her being in heat and the hormones and dominance issue, but it’s as if they have always lived together! Speaking of being in heat, she knows I have to put her little “romper” on after coming in from outside. She waits for me to do it and even lifts her little nub for me to slip it on. I am in love. Her favorite things to do are roll around in the grass and neighborhood watch. She doesn’t bark when people or dogs walk by. I’ve never heard her bark for that matter. She rides well in the car. She slept both ways on a road trip to Clifton Park. She is nervous around unfamiliar people and stays right by my side, but really enjoyed pets so much from my 12-year old niece that I was able to move around without her following after me. I am so proud of the progress she is making and how she takes everything in stride. You go, Lulu!
4/16/25-Lulu is doing FANTASTIC!!
She has not had an accident and has even come to get me to go out. She had trouble with my hardwood stairs and I thought it was because of her long nails, but even after being clipped she still struggled. I quickly ordered some tread covers for the stairs and as soon as I clicked “submit payment” she started zooming up and down the stairs all on her own. LOL She came into rescue with scabbed ear tips and the vet said it was from fly strikes. She keeps scratching at them, reopening one and causing it to bleed a little. I cleaned with some witch hazel and I put some triple antibiotic on it this morning hoping I won’t come home to them pawed at again. I am going to get Neosporin since that can be an anti-itch medication & try liquid bandage for dogs.
She also is in heat so i am ordering some doggie diapers to keep things clean.
4/13/25-Lulu is doing well considering how many years she has been used as a commercial breeding dog. She is currently nervous and standoffish with new people and tends to stay near me. She came into rescue with some scars on her body and extremely long nails. She did very well with my cats. I think she wants to play with them, but they are not having it. Haha We had company over the same day she came to my home and she did remarkably well. She was nervous and apprehensive, but stayed right near me and allowed them to show her love and affection. That night she slept in bed with me and the cats. As the night went on, she inched closer and closer to me, at times resting her head on me as she slept. In the morning, she waited for me to get her to come off the bed and went outside to do her business. She ate once I put some chicken on her kibble and drank water. After breakfast we went for a walk. She has gone on a handful of leash walks and does really well. She will pee on the walks, but hasn’t pooped on them yet. She goes when we get back home. She walks out of the house fine, but needs to be on a leash to walk back in the house. She will approach the open doors, but then chickens out.
On Sunday, I had to put her in the crate to run some errands. She was reluctant to go in, so I had to push her in there. Once in the crate she settled down and didn’t make a peep, even when I got home. She was waiting patiently and quietly for me to let her out. I hope she does that well when I am at work during the week! She is currently nervous about getting into the car. I always have to bring her over and lift her front paws and then hind end to get in the car. She will try to get away from going in the car if she can. She rides great in the car though once she is in it. The groomer said she did really well. She started off really nervous and then she relaxed a bit. She now smells fantastic and her nails are clipped. She must feel so much better now. I am looking forward to seeing what her personality is like once she decompresses.
4/12/25-Foster mom Lisa has saved another life! Sweetie pie Lulu has joined the fam. Day one, Lulu has already made friends with Gus, Zoey ( & Sophie not in pic), the cat pack!
4/11/25-Ms. Lulu is a very beautiful & sweet 4 year old female boxer that came in today from a commercial breeder as they just didn’t need her anymore. She arrived safely into rescue tonight thanks to her transport & overnight foster volunteers. Her initial vet check as she came into rescue noted she may have a low grade 2 heart murmur (often there is no murmur & just stress of coming in from breeder, anxious & noise etc), some old skin lesions & may need dental cleaning later after adopted. We will get her skin checked & a 2nd check on her heart at our other vet during her pre-spay checkup. Due to vet backups her checkup is not until Tuesday 5/13 & we hope to get her a spay appointment for soon after. Once she is spayed she will be ready for her new home.
