6/17/25-After a consult today, our very boxer experienced vet said at Starlight’s age he would not put her under to be spayed or do her gums or any other surgery. Due to her age & that she may have another year or two before the DM gets worse, we are waiving her adoption fee & it is sponsored by donations. Don’t get us wrong, Starlight is still doing deck stairs & great with the other dogs. Sweetheart for sure! Thank you to her foster mom Nancy who is taking great care of her until her new home comes along.
6/16/25-This beautiful senior girl arrived into rescue 6/13 from a commercial breeder, as she was non productive for some time, but being such a sweetheart, she was basically a farm dog and pet. She has absolutely the sweetest disposition, gentle, outgoing, happy to see you, getting and giving an abundance of love with all the boxer wiggles we love so much. It’s only taken a few days for me, her foster Mom, to totally fall in love with her. As like many aged boxers, she has a few lumps and bumps, but, she’s in remarkably good shape. Starlight is showing very early signs of DM (Degenerative Myelopathy) common in senior boxers: hind feet knuckling, some dragging of the hind feet, and some minor atrophy of hind legs. However, it’s not slowing her down yet, she goes up and down my deck stairs, trots around the yard with my Boston terrier and my boxer girl. She is also enjoying the morning with an outdoor “sunshine bath” on the deck. She finally started eating last night, took her a few minutes taste testing velveeta cheese (meds hiding place), but this morning, it was the 1st thing she ate, and she’s getting into the groove with Cranberry sauce in her food. I’ll be talking to my vet about her tomorrow as we get a clearer picture of her life going forward. So think about giving this treasure a loving home in her senior years, she’s worth every once of love.
6/14/25-Starlight has landed softly in her foster home. What is sweetheart. She choose the most popular dog bed to nap in after a long day of transport. And after exploring the fenced yard, she used the outdoor facilities then chose the most comfy bed for a nap.
6/13/25-Starlight is a sweet 10 year old female boxer. She came in from a commercial breeder as they just didn’t want her anymore. She arrived safely into rescue today thanks to her transport & overnight volunteers. She is being treated with antibiotics for lyme disease & has some slight seasonal alopecia & overgrown gums. More updates soon from her foster mom.
