1/10/26-Went to our local pet supply store where they have store cats, also hosting another dog rescue. We did a cat test & Gucci has no problem with cats (didn’t acknowledge as it walked past him). He also was fine with larger dogs too. Now we are working on getting him to smell better! His skin is ok, but his ears are just awful! The skin on his neck is super thick. It may take 6 months to a year for him to regrow hair there, or he may never regrow hair there. So potential adopters need to know they will need to protect that skin possibly long term.
1/07/26-Gucci was seen at the vet today for a follow up. Despite his antibiotics he has a massive ear infection. He now has a new topical ear meds with steroids, antibiotics, antifungal & anti-yeast. They want him washed daily with a prescription shampoo to make sure skin infection is gone. So nice he’s super cooperative. He has gained 2 lbs and showing his winning personality to everyone. It will still be a bit before we feel Gucci is ready to go to his new home.
12/30/25-My black pug has been taking care of Gucci. He will likely need 3 weeks to get his skin to a manageable state and a few pounds on him. He has a severe skin infection, also down into his ears causing an ear infection, is severely malnourished (10-15lbs underweight), pressure sores on both hip bones, but super sweet. He’ll be getting medicated bathes 3x a week & ointments 2x a day for at least 2 weeks.
12/29/25-One last jailbreak for the year! Gucci is a sweet 5 year old male French Bulldog that was found abandoned in a box in the cold. Thank God our shelter friends reached out and have been taking good care of him. His skin is a mess but his spirit is alive !! Our fantastic foster team is going to put some fat on his bones and get to work on fixing his skin. Then the animal control officer found him in a box and somehow traced it back to the owner. The original owner said they gave him away. However the original owner and the second owner were pointing fingers at each other regarding who abandoned the dog in a box. He’s very sweet. The owner said Gucci was being treated with Apoquel for his skin due to allergies to synthetic rugs & the medicine became too expensive for them. As we can see he was not treated for a while as his skin is currently a mess. We have never heard of this type of allergic reaction to rugs but it may be true because it only affects his neck and belly. Updates soon from his foster home.
