5/30/26-Bugsy is loving the comfort of a squishy bed.
5/29/26-Bugsy is well-behaved and so sweet. He met a 3 yr old little girl this evening. She was gentle and Bugsy was a gentleman letting her come close and pet him.
5/28/26-Bugsy arrived on Saturday May 16th. He had a long trip so I spent time relaxing and meeting my boxer Roxy (Second Chance alumni). He did well overnight. He needs to learn that we go outside to potty but some of it could be marking. He had been slow to eat the first week. He has been anxious and tends to find a place he feels safe. He likes to be by my chair or between the sofa and the ottoman. He is not a jumper so I have to lift him in and out of the car. He walked well on the leash but could use some training in this area. On May 21st he was neutered. He came through with flying colors and the vet’s office loved him. After sleeping in the crate a few nights he rebelled with constant barking. Since I wanted to sleep I moved him to my room. The first night he was anxious and roamed the room all night. The next night I tethered him in my room and he did well. Now he sleeps beside my bed on a comfy blanket. He is slowly coming around closer this week. In true Boxer fashion he wants to know where you are at all times. While he sometimes comes when called he likes to retreat rather than come all the way to me. I am sure each day as he trusts me he will relax. Yesterday he was in the yard with Roxy. They ran around a bit and laid in the grass as I was working on the patio. He does well with her – no mounting or aggression. Last night I took him to Tractor Supply to pick up food. He was very good in the car – he sat looking out the window. I took him in with me and we walked around the store. He met a few people as we walked. He was well behaved with everyone. On Sunday I will be bringing him to their walk-in vaccine clinic for his bordatella vaccine. There will be a lot of dogs there so I am hoping it is not too overwhelming. He does crate easily when I need to leave the house. I put on some calming music and he is hanging out without destroying the crate pad. When I get home he scurries out the door to do his business. Since his surgery there have not been any more leg lifts in the house. I do put him outside periodically throughout the day but I do not think he tells me yet when he needs a potty break. Bugsy is a wonderful boy without the crazy Boxer puppy energy. I am sure he will make a loyal companion for someone who understands he needs a patient person to help him learn to trust and love since that was never part of his previous life at the commercial breeder.
5/17/26-Bugsy had a very good afternoon and evening. He slept well overnight.
05/15/26-Bugsy is a nice 5 year old male boxer that came in today from a commercial breeder as they just didn’t need him anymore. He arrived safely into rescue tonight thanks to his transport & overnight volunteers. He has an ear infection he is being treated for & may eventually need a teeth cleaning in his new home after he is adopted. Bugsy will be neutered next Thursday 5/21 & once we get to know him better he will be ready for his new home.
