1/30/23-Joey has been with me more than a week now and he’s making progress everyday.  He continues to keep a clean crate and has not had any accidents in the house.  When I finally got my hands all over him I found out that he is skin and bones.  His fluffy fur was disguising this problem.  He loves his food so I increased his feedings to three times a day.  After lunch one day he was out doing his thing and got an unbelievable case of the zoomies.  He just ran and ran and ran.  He would stop for a few seconds and then go again. Then the cherry on top was that he then ran up the stairs – first time.  The next few days we worked on him crossing the threshold into the house – mission accomplished.

Joey still remains a fearful boy.  He follows me around but will not come close enough to be petted.  If I reach my arm out all the way he will give the tips of my fingers sweet kisses.  Though Joey can be around other dogs we feel he would do best as an only dog in his home. He continues to growl and snap at them to leave him alone even when no food is involved.  He doesn’t seem to get joy or comfort from their presence like some mill dogs do.

In the evenings his fear increases and he is so anxious he forgets how to go up stairs or what he is supposed to do outside.  We’re working on a few things to help him.  He wants to be with the family but also in his crate so we put a second crate up in the office and now he just calmly sleeps for a few hours.
Joey will be a great dog for someone that adopts him and has the patience  and love to get him past the trauma he has been through by living his life in a puppy mill.

1/24/23-Joey has been in his foster home for three full days.  He’s a fearful boy but that will get better every day.  He will need someone with the patience to let him develop in his own time.  He allows me to handle him and carry him around.  My house is all about stairs so my first priority is for him to learn the stairs – he’s up to four.  Left on his own he will go in and out of the crate.  While I was cooking last night he wandered around the kitchen and even had playtime with his new favorite toy, his puppy pad.  He’s not bothered at all by the kitchen noises.  He sleeps through the night and his crate is always clean.  He has had no accidents in the house

He was groomed today and the groomers fell in love with him.  He looks good, smells good and is soft and fluffy.  Just ask him as he spends some time everyday admiring himself in the dishwasher. He’s been neutered, had some dental extractions and his teeth cleaned.  Joey is ready for his new home!

1/20/23-Joey is a 4 year old handsome miniature poodle. He was saved from being killed by a puppy mill as they were just done breeding him. He arrived safely into rescue today thanks to his transport & overnight volunteers. More updates from his foster home soon!best as only dog
