5/16/23-This little boy has shown lots of changes in the last week since his friend Scruffy was adopted.  Dirk is just full of life, and finds everything happening interesting.  He loves running up and down my fence, all 15.5 lbs of him, with the 1.5 year old Malinois next door.  This dog is ten times the size of Dirk and they have a blast together.  Dirk has gotten much more sure of me, and loves attention, even snuggles with me in the chair, puts his paws up on my leg seeking pats and rubs.  He just wants to be loved, and run in the yard with my dogs and loves when other people walk by with their dogs. When he’s tired, he loves to snuggle up with my Boston Terrier and my aged Boxer boy, and catch a nap in the sun.  In this last week he has only had 1 accident in the house, so house training is going great.  Because my dogs have free access to my fenced back yard, and with the weather so nice, he doesn’t have to ask to go outside, so I can’t say that he gives any signals, but he’d rather go out to potty than in the house when given the choice. How could I not appreciate that. When it comes to stairs, he’s a master at it, whether its outside deck stairs or inside Cape Cod style house going upstairs to 2nd level. He’s a pro, and will happily follow you wherever you go. As for leash walking, he’s pretty good, but definitely needs work on it, as he tends to want to pull ahead, or sometimes (rarely) will try to cross in front of me, this is where obedience training will help, and I think he will be a star. He did get to see some young children this weekend, one of my neighbors has 3 grandchildren under 5 yrs. old.  When they went running across the yard, he couldn’t get to the fence fast enough to see what they were doing, or where they were going.  When they came to the fence to try and touch him, he was having non of that, and would back up about 4 feet, he didn’t run away, but he definitely liked the comfort zone of a few feet away.   I don’t think he’s ever had exposure to very young children, at least that is the impression I got from him. Visiting younger kids should be fine, young kids chasing him daily, he’s not ready for that. Dirk does very well on car rides, and would be a great companion wherever you go.  Dirk is definitely ready for his forever home!

5/9/23-This little man has definitely let his spunky, playful self shine thru this week.  He is playful with my Boston Terrier and Scruffy at the same time, he can run like the wind around the yard with them, jumping up over the 2 foot stone wall like it’s 2 inches high.  He is just the cutest little guy, he’s starting to respond to his name and definitely is now braver when I call him, he comes tail wagging and a little smile on his adorable face, and what a little bounce he has to his step, he just makes me smile. His appetite continues to be great, loves food, and since he has discovered he gets to have dog cookies when he goes in his crate, he literally flies to his crate when he sees me to the cookie jar.  Dirk is also doing good with potty training, but it is definitely still a work in progress.

5/04/23-What a happy little boy, he’s a happy bouncy boy who wants attention from you, but he is a little scared right now when you reach to pick him up. He’s going to need more positive handling and this will help, he so wants love that he just keeps coming back to see me.  I currently have him dragging a leash so when I want to pick him up I can draw him to me. At just a smidge over 15 pounds, he easy to carry, but he’s also pretty good at leash walking. Dirk is also very accomplished with stairs and will jump into the car to accompany you in the car wherever you want to go. He’s great with other dogs and is a smuggler with Scruffy that he apparently shared a crate with. Yes he’s crate Trained.  Potty training is definitely a work in progress,  but he’s a smart boy to so he’ll get it. His neuter went great too so he’s ready to go home. Are you ready to welcome this bundle of love into your life?

05/01/23-Dirk is an 2 year old puggle (pug/beagle) rescued from an overcrowded breeder. He arrived into foster yesterday along with Scruffy, LiLou & Elmo. He is very sweet & definitely a cutie! He is at the vet today for his checkup, shots & neuter. More updates from his foster home coming once he is back from the vet tomorrow night. Dirk will be ready to go home very soon.
