5/27/23-Maizy is doing so much better with my family from NY visiting: Son, daughter-in-law & 2 1/2 year old grandson. Maizy doesn’t have a high prey drive & is not afraid of any animals so we think she will be fine with dog savvy cats.  She still seems to see people she doesn’t know approaching her as very scary & she will keep her distance. No growling or aggression, just trying to keep space. She does approach me but still cowers with family but does let them pet her. She is still afraid of noises, but adjusting to some. We have to remember her life was in a barn or kennel on a farm & all household & neighborhood noises are new to her.  She’s definitely got lots of potential & no where near as bad as many mill dogs we get in. She needs someone compassionate & with patience to earn her trust & help her get over her fears.

5/22/23-Maizy got along very well with my 2 1/2 year old grandson! He was cautious and respectful, so was she. He petted her, repeatedly no problem. No play or rough housing. She also surprisingly didn’t run from him like she still does with most adults. We know from past history a lot of mills have their kids feed & care for the dogs so the dogs are more use to children. This may be the case with Maizy.

5/15/23-Maizy has been out of the puppy mill 10 days now & gets better everyday. My dog Coco would not share her toys so I bought Maizy a couple of toys which she loves!  Coco keeps stealing them but Maizy tolerates my very spoiled labradoodle. She didn’t bark until her 7th day here, and it was happy playful barking with smiles and chuffing (like a happy horse)in between. She hasn’t had one potty accident since arriving. The crate remains open but not used here.  She is not destructive when left unsupervised in the house with Coco left alone for up to 3 hours. She likes to be groomed and is patient. She looks like a new dog & I’m sure feels better too! Her only drawback right now is she is afraid of everything new, which for a mill dog is everything! She’s being socialized primarily with family and friends. She loves being outside observing and enjoying all the sights and sounds. She just started playing a little more with Coco and chasing a ball, when she does, she doesn’t return it though! LOL Her current fear response is to flee. I’ve seen no aggression, except a quiet grumble when Coco tries to steal a treat or toy. Leash walking is ok but if she is unsure of the person holding it she lies down and tries to refuse to move. I know with a little time she will get better. Maizy is making progress every day! She is a beautiful girl and needs a gentle hand.  She was spayed today & surgery went well. She does have some skin allergies, may be due to never being around grass & the outdoors or may need to try a different food. For now we will continue generic Zyrtec daily.  A little more adjustment time then she’ll be looking for her furever home!

05/05/23-Maizy is a sweet 2 1/2 year old female Standard Goldendoodle (Standard poodle/Golden Retriever). She was saved from being killed by a puppy mill as they were just done breeding her. She arrived safely into rescue tonight along with her litter mate Aurora thanks to their transport & overnight volunteers. Maizy is extremely matted so her foster home is working on trying to get them out.  We are also trying to get her a spay date as soon as possible. Once we get to know her better & she is spayed then she can be matched to her new home.  More updates from her foster home soon!
