7/07/23-Since so many have touched Greta’s life, helped her into rescue and cheered her on, I’d like to update you all on the results of her ECHO. Unfortunately, Greta’s heart disease is not fixable. She actually has 2 different cardiac problems. Her Aortic valve is narrow with signs of stenosis, both other 2 valves are enlarged. Angioplasty to fix first would only enlarge the other 2. That is simply a no win situation.
Greta is currently on a medication called Atenolol, to help her heart not work so hard. This medication is given 2 times a day and needs to be compounded at a pharmacy and will need constant adjustments as she grows.
When Greta came to me, she was tiny, weighted in at 4.5 lbs. She’s now 12.5 lbs. And growing daily.  She runs, plays hard and loves life and my dogs and anyone who picks her up and cuddles her.
Greta’s life expectancy is 6 months to 2 yrs. And CHF (congestive heart failure) will likely be the final culprit of her eventual death.
So, with all that said. She’s a special little being, who will live a normal life and needs to be allowed to continue life as any other puppy.

6/8/23-Little Greta came into rescue due to a heart murmur.  She is very small for the boxer breed, being 4.5 lbs. at 9 weeks old.  She is petite for sure, but she has a strong will.  She saw my vet, who found her heart murmur to be a grade 4-5 on scale of 1 to 6 (6 being worst). We have scheduled her to see a cardiologist on 6/23.  At that time, Greta will have an echocardiogram so then we will know better what we are working with and whether she will be a candidate for surgery. Greta is the sweetest little thing, and absolutely deserves a chance at life.  She loves to snuggle, cuddle, pounce and bounce in her puppy play yard, and does a pretty good tug-o-war with her rope toy and stuffed animals.  She also loves her food, and at the moment because she is so small, is being fed 4 times daily. So, please send this little sweetie pie, good healing thoughts and check back soon to see how she’s doing.

5/31/23-Greta is a gorgeous 8 week old reverse brindle boxer. She was saved from a puppy mill as she failed her health exam so she could not be sold. She has a possible grade 4 heart murmur. She arrived safely into rescue tonight along with her sister Kenna (also possible grade 4 murmur) thanks to their transport volunteer Lisa.  They are not related to Della whose birthday is 1 day off & has heart murmur too.  Greta & Kenna have an appointment with our vet Monday 6/5 for a checkup & additional testing if needed. At that time we will find out what else needs done for them to give them the best life possible. More updates next week after their vet visit.
