7/20/23-We have had requests to see how Maisy may be with cats. We don’t have any but we have a ton of neighborhood cats that just hang around. At first she was interested and definitely had that stiffened, focused, ready to attack mode but I would redirect her easily. She still does that from time to time but can be redirected. In our rescue’s experience with fostering & cats unfortunately we have found that stance is not a good sign especially where she still does it from time to time. It’s good she can be redirected but most likely would never be safe if loose with cats in a house. Maisy will need a kitty free home.

7/17/23-Mae girl had her spay on 7/14. She did well and is doing very well! She had a rough first 24hrs but w some quiet 1:1 loving she pulled through and is back to herself again!
Other than that, she is working on her hand signals. We’re using ASL (American sign language) as our guide and some videos I found online. She knows sit and come. Although in typical young boxer style she is very stubborn and only listens when she feels like it! Work in progress I suppose. LOL She has gotten to be great with her foster dog siblings & loves to play with them but best with slow intros to new dogs as she is afraid at first. Like many deaf dogs she does have separation anxiety & does not like being crated and barks and cries. Luckily she doesn’t need to be kenneled much! Due to her barking she is not going to be a good apartment/condo or dog park type dog. She LOVES kids of all ages & her best friend is our 15 yr old daughter. Maisy had fun at a party here & did great with the new people.  She also loves to sleep in bed with her people, and she snuggles so good! She will sleep in her own little space at the end of the bed all night but every morning makes her way to the top all snuggled in, and even puts her paw around you sometimes. She’s very polite about taking treats, with giving her smooches and when she comes up for a hug. She is very gentle. She’s a really sweet loving dog once she feels ok with her surroundings. I’d say she definitely will need some training, and patience but I think with all the proper training and environments she will do really well! And she will love you to death, and you’ll love her to death right back!
7/07/23-Maisy had her vet visit today & had her shots & pre spay bloodwork. We will get the results Monday & if all good then spay will happen as planned next Friday 7/14. She will also get her heartworm/lyme test them too.

07/01/23-Our girl is getting more comfy! Maisy is so cute and so sweet and gives kisses and gets so excited to see you. She will be so great with training! We just love her.  She is now among the other dogs here & she has been doing ok. She needs me to intervene and redirect from time to time but does so easily. I think she would love to have a pup friend to play with but would need time and patience to warm up. I think the longer she’s around other new dogs the more she’ll feel comfortable and feel safe about other new people too. We are working on some basic signs for training and she’s picking up a little bit. The hardest part is getting her attention. Right now she is a barker & is loud, probably because she can’t hear herself! LOL Like a typical deaf dog she’s got some separation anxiety if she can’t see you or get to you (like if she’s outside or crated or on the other side of a gate etc) & she will bark until she gets your attention. Good thing I’m home most of the time!  I’m working on trying to curb the barking but for this reason she will not do well for apartment or condo living. She definitely will do best and be happiest in a home with someone with her through the day (work at home, retired, work opposites, ag home parent etc). She was raised by a man but here she doesn’t seem to be a fan of men yet. I am sure she is still stressed from the transition. Maisy sees the vet this Friday 7/7 for her shots & pre-spay checkup and her spay is on Friday 7/14. She will be ready to home after her spay!

6/27/23-Maisy & her sibling Myles are 2 year old deaf owner surrenders that came into rescue today thanks to their transport volunteers. They were living alone in a small garage the past 3 months as the owner couldn’t have them at an apartment.  He finally decided it was best to have them find new homes. They lived with kids 2 & 4 years old & were good with them. We are working on finding a vet to get her spayed. More updates soon from her foster home.
