9/20/21-Hazel has been here for a little over 2 weeks. She continues to be the sweetest girl. Despite her early enthusiasm for the great big world she has shut down a bit. This is not surprising as mill dogs go from a cage with little activity or interaction with humans to having a home, yard and constant interactions with people. Then add the noises most dogs are unfazed by (mower, car exhaust, car doors closing, fireworks, TV, vacuums etc) you can see how this can overwhelm a dog who lived in a cage so long. She is coming around and will just need a family that will be patient with her.
Hazel will definitely do best with a confident dog she can learn from. She is really easy going with the other dogs and definitely enjoys their company. If she gets overwhelmed she will simply go lay in her crate or her “safe” spot near the deck. Once she relaxes for a bit she ventures out again. She is leery of new people and that will take time but she LOVES treats so that can be used to help win her over.
Hazel has figured out the joy of dog toys and often brings them into her crate (or one of the other dogs). It is quite common to find a stash of 5 toys in her crate. Despite being a toy hoarder she shares them very nicely with the others.
Hazel has the sweetest, most soulful eyes. She just wants to be loved and pet. Her fur is soft as velvet. We are starting to see her silly, playful side. She zips around the yard with her nub wiggling like crazy. It is so rewarding to watch her grow and learn new things. Hazel is ready for a family of her very own.

9/5/21-Hazel arrived on Friday after living a life of being bred in a puppy mill. Luckily those days are behind her and she can enjoy life as a loved pet now.

Despite a tough 6 years Hazel is pretty social. She loves to be pet and is so happy and wiggly. While her breeder has her listed as an English Bulldog we think it’s far more likely she is an Olde English Bulldogge. She’s not quite as squatty and wrinkly as an English and honestly that is a good thing! English Bulldogs are high maintenance (cleaning wrinkles/folds/allergies/skin issues/ear issues etc) while Hazel has a perfect velvety coat, no wrinkles to get infected or needing constant cleaning, no skins of allergy problems etc. she is a low maintenance girl.

So far she is adjusting well and an absolute joy to foster. She’s great with the other dogs, very tolerant of the crazy puppies and hasn’t had an accident in the house. Hazel will do well in most homes, she will just need a little time to build some more confidence and come out of her shell. More updates as we get to know her better.
