9/28/23-Yesterday Amber & I went on a nature walk with my friend and her 9 yr old medium size female husky mix.  We walked about 3 miles on a flat trail. Both dogs walked along not giving the other much attention. Surprisingly, there were no other dogs on the trail, but each time a human passed by Amber got very scared & bucked on the leash. I was able to calm her & she would cautiously sniff the hand of anyone who stopped. She doesn’t react that way when people come into my home, (just outside) and has not growled or shown any aggression. She would probably do well with an older or calmer dog that isn’t hyperactive & barky. Our 13 yr old cat Cinnamon passed early this summer so Amber has not encountered a cat.

9/26/23-Amber is doing great!! She’s taking walks through the neighborhood now & has a bathroom routine. She knows to go outside.
She will eat Evenger’s wet chicken food but i haven’t found any other dog treats she likes. I’m reluctant to offer a lot table food as this might set a precedence for her adoptive family.
She headed right into the stream on our 1st walk in SPA park & waded for a few minutes before getting out on her own. So i think she would do well in a home near water, but a busy city environment wouldn’t be the best.  Loud noises, sounds of cars, & barking dogs frighten her & cause her to retreat. She’s good with children & has not shown any issues towards other dogs, but she is timid at this time.

9/20/23-I did get some canned food which Amber is eating. She might just be a finicky eater. I’ll try a wetter type and see if I can mix some dry food into it.  Amber was good with the dogs at the mill.  She has only encountered neighbor dogs from a distance, as they walked by our driveway, and she seemed cautious, but we haven’t had an official meet and greet with another dog yet. She has met some friends and family members and has not exhibited fear of people.  Amber was more active on the extension lease this morning and actually started walking & exploring the yard a little, then went back inside the garage on her own without being carried.  She’s making baby steps!

09/18/23-Initially I called her pumpkin but after her bath I decided Amber was a more fitting name. She has such beautiful coloring! Amber is still very scared & not yet eating, drinking or going potty & doesn’t want to walk on the leash, but she likes her crate for night time & when I leave for work. I gave her general worming meds (we do on all mill dogs) inside pieces of a hotdogs which she loved.  Due to vet backups the  soonest pre spay appointment I could get is Thursday Oct 5th.  At that time we should be able to schedule her spay asap. After Amber is spayed she will be ready to go to her new home. She’s a sweetheart!
09/15/23-Amber is a very pretty 1 year old female mini Goldendoodle (miniature poodle/Golden Retriever). She was saved from being killed by a puppy mill as they just didn’t need her. She arrived safely into rescue tonight thanks to her transport & overnight volunteers. Updates soon from her foster home!
