11/3/23-It’s been almost a week since Mei arrived at our house and her personality is really starting to bloom now! She’s doing fantastic!! Overnite, she’s quiet in her crate and has never messed in there once!  She’s found her voice though and when we leave for work, she’ll bark for a bit.  Why?  Because her most favorite thing in the world is to be next to her humans.  She’s eating so much better – I’ve been adding water and canned food to her kibble, and she gobbles it right up (she also prefers me to sit next to her while she dines…).  She’s doing excellent with potty training too – only 1 accident so far!  She stays glued to me wherever I go but she’s getting more confident every day.  She picked up a toy the other day for a minute and she has been running a little with my pack.  They are so much bigger than her, she seems a little unsure if they will eat her for lunch!  We had a great pack walk yesterday and she was quite the trooper keeping up with my dogs’ longer legs – she was great on leash & walked ~1.5miles!  This little girl is ready to go to her furever – and will make a perfect cuddle buddy for a lucky adopter!

10/29/23-After a long initial journey to freedom, Mei arrived in her foster home yesterday.  She was named “Mei” which means pretty in mandarin since Pugs originated in China.  She was a great car rider during transport and didn’t seem overly timid at first.  However as expected, her curly tail remained down, and she didn’t want to eat or potty.  This is common behavior for mill dogs as they are completely out of sorts and need time to decompress and get used to new surroundings.  So, after a brief meet & greet with my pack of dogs, Mei enjoyed a quiet afternoon in the safety of her new, clean & soft crate!  Since Mei had a dental with extractions just a few days ago, later in the evening I gave her a pain med & some soft food which she seemed to enjoy.  She’s also been spayed & vaccinated and found to have mild bacteria in her ears, so she’ll get daily cleanings & drops to resolve.  She’s on antibiotics and her incision is healing well.  She also has a grade 3 luxating patella which is common in this breed but does not affect her mobility or seem to bother her at all.  Mei slept quietly in the crate overnite & her bedding was dry this morn.  She gobbled up her breakfast along with some yogurt and the tail has gone up!  My boxer boy desperately wants to play with her but she’s not ready yet.  So far, her favorite things to do are to sit next to me on the couch and be my shadow whenever I get up.  Patience and time are what this sweet lady needs right now so stay tuned for updates as her personality comes out!

10/27/23-Mei is a cute as can be 4 year old female pug saved from being killed by a puppy mill as they just got done breeding her. She arrived safely into rescue tonight thanks to her transport & overnight volunteers. More updates soon from her foster home!
