11/12/23-Dickens is a mini aussiedoodle who came into rescue because he was too old to sell. Thank you to his wonderful temporary foster mom, Mary, who picked him up from transport and had him groomed. He was filthy dirty, stinky, and flea infested. She was able to get him cleaned up and oh, what a difference.

Dickens is your typical puppy – playful, energetic, and in constant need of attention. He does well using the pee pads in the house and he hasn’t had any accidents in his crate. He went the entire night without incident. He has a good appetite. He is not fussy about food and will eagerly eat his meals. We (3 dogs) attempted a walk this morning. It was a challenge with Dickens and his littermate Stewart as they have never been leash walked before. They did finally settle into a good walking rhythm by the time we finished. I will keep working on this. He did great though, walking a little over a mile. He could’ve gone longer, too.

Dickens is playful with his littermate and my own dog. My dog is older so she can only tolerate so much puppy playfulness. I would not suggest a home with cats. He is too interested in my cats and is wanting to chase them. I don’t know if it is playfulness or aggressiveness, but it is stressing my cats out and they want nothing to do with him. (My cats are very dog savvy, as they have always lived with dogs.). At this age Dickens needs to be with his human even though he is being fostered with his littermate. If I leave the room he will bark and whine until I come back. He enjoys snuggling on the couch. Right now Dickens does bark and whine in his crate when I am leaving. I do believe he settles down eventually. He is a vocal dog, though, so he would not do well in an apartment/condo situation. His initial puppy vet visit when he was younger showed no medical issues. His visit last week the vet said heart low grade 1 out of 6 heart murmur.  This low can be a common “puppy murmur” they outgrow in a few months or even stress at vet may have made them hear something. Nothing to worry about at this age but something to note to watch as he gets older.  More updates to follow as I get to know him better.

11/09/23-Dickens is an adorable 17 week old Mini aussiedoodle (miniature poodle/miniature Australian shepherd). He is a F1B generational doodle, meaning he is 3/4 mini poodle, which gives him more of poodle coat.  He was saved from being killed by a puppy mill along with his brother Stewart as they just got too old for them to sell. They arrived safely into rescue tonight thanks to their transport & overnight volunteers. We estimate they both will be about 25 lbs full grown. More updates soon from their foster home!
