12/11/23-Karma has been with use since 11/17. She sent the first 6 years of her life in a cage as a breeder dog.  This girl has come along way in 3 weeks but she needs family will the patience to figure out how to be a dog. She still spends most of her time in her bed in front of my front door. We carry her outside every three hours and she goes – no accidents. She doesn’t let us know she has to go out though. She will gladly walk back in to her bed. She loves when we pet her in her area she stiffens though when we pick her up (no aggression, just acts like a statue). She will lay on my lap for about 10 minutes until she voluntarily heads back to her bed. Her ideal home would be with other active dogs that she can learn from.  Karma had a play date with a young frenchie and that was the most reaction I’ve seen from her since she came to live with us. She does walk around when she is outside. She really is a sweetie she just needs the right home to help her blossom.

12/5/23-Very big couple of days for Karma as she comes out of her shell. Yesterday she started using the outside facilities. She is venturing out of her area in the house on her own. She even joined the resident dogs for a nap.

12/4/23-Karma went on a road trip to meet Jen’s pack of 2 dogs & foster Sassy Kay this morning . While she didn’t play with them she walked around the house freely. She really is wonderful. Today was full of firsts. Even peed outside instead of on potty pads inside. These are all huge for her progress!

12/3/23-Karma is doing well. We still have to carry her outside and she has no clue what to do out there. On the bright side she is now moving around while outside. She will walk back in on her own.  She seems more aware of what’s going on around her. She is not a cuddler and doesn’t like to be held yet ( she still shakes). She does love to have her chin rubbed. At night she has access to the kitchen and I do hear her moving around. She really needs a home with other dogs who can teach her how to be a dog.

1/25/23-We took away Karma’s crate 3 days ago. She has an area by the front door & has free rein of the house when we are home but she doesn’t leave her area by choice . She does use a potty pad because she was scared of the outside. Today we restarted outside potty training. I have to carry her outside but she will walk around the yard and walk back into her area on her own.  She is not scare of us and doesn’t try to run she just sadly doesn’t know how to be a dog.

11/22/23-Dan and Karma seemed to be bonding. I think it’s because they both refuse to get up and move out of the living room and sit there all day. LOL Apparently they have bonded over Henry the Donkey videos on TikTok. I’ve taken her crate away during the day but she still lies in the same spot.  When you approach her she doesn’t run and try to get away she just lets you touch her. I really believe that she just doesn’t know what to do outside her cage space. I carry her into the kitchen and put her down and the floor so she has to walk back into the livingroom for excercise.  She is a very sweet girl and I see baby steps everyday.

11/23/23-Tomorrow will be a week since we got Karma. She is still so apprehensive of life. She does not come out of her area on her own. We keep taking to other rooms and make her walk back. We are doing our best to make her feel safe.  My dogs typically ignore new fosters at first. They are starting to pay more attention to her and she seems interested so hopefully that will help. Baby steps.

11/21/23-We have some progress. Luckily Karma loves food so she will come out of the crate on her own. She will sit and listen to me talk to her awhile then go back it. I am giving her to Friday and will be shutting the crate door during the day.  I tried setting her on the couch last night but she just shook. She is fine if I hold her. Just lots of NEW that she has to get use to. Karma is going to need a couple of weeks to decompress before we start looking for her new home.

11/20/23-Karma day 3: Karma is still spending all her time in the crate. Door is open 24/7 but she chooses to stay in. l moved the pen in the living room so she can get used to the sights and sounds of normal life. So far she only goes to the bathroom at night but goes on a potty pad. When I try taking her outside she shakes. We will retry outside potting in a few days. She  does come out on her own to eat. She is very food motivated and will eat out of my hand. She doesn’t shy away when I put my arm in the crate to pet her . She does put up resistance when I take her out. She shakes when I try to let her lay on the couch but it’s only been 3 days and everything is new to her. I do put the pen around her crate area at night . Dan who grumbles every time a new foster comes in thinks I don’t hear him talking to her as they watch tv.

11/18/23-Karma is spending all day in her crate even through the door is wide open . I took her outside and she was so scared she was shaking. Later in the evening Karma is again not happy that I took her out of her crate. Right now she is very shy and prefers to watch. We are sure that will change as she decompresses. We are giving the time she needs to learn about life outside the mill & all the new activity & noises that come with it.

11/17/23-Karma is a cute 6 year old female French bulldog. She was saved from being killed by a puppy mill as they were just done breeding her. She arrived safely into rescue today thanks to her transport volunteers. She was spayed this week along with a dental cleaning. She has yeast & bacteria infections in her ears which she is being treated for. She also has dry eye in her right eye where her tear ducts aren’t working properly. This is quite typical of her breed. She will need eye drops in that one eye twice a day for the rest of her life. We recommend her new owner switch her to cyclosporine drops as in our experience it works better & is a more reasonable cost. More updates from her foster home soon.
