12/29/23-Holly Jolly is doing great! She has such a sweet disposition.  She’s becoming more and more social.  She has joined the pack in their efforts to defend our home from all evil and Amazon deliveries.  She runs to the window with the pack, but still hasn’t barked.  Holly loves to snuggle on the couch with my husband and our 7 yr old daughter.  She also loves toys, balls and bones to chew on and destroy. Best part about that is we have plenty of toys to choose from.  She’s so proud of herself when she gets the squeaker, rips the head off of a stuffy, or when chasing a ball around the house. LOL She loves to take toys out of the toy box and trot proudly as she carries them to her crate. Holly is still quite shy and submissive around people.  She still cowers when we walk up to her & prefers adults be sitting still. We know with time she will learn that people are not scary like life in the puppy mill.  She was such a good girl when getting her sutures removed from her eyes yesterday at the vet. The staff at the vet fell in love with her immediately. Her right eye is very dry. She will need eye drops for the rest of her life in the 1 eye. Her ears are still itchy so she has new medication she’ll get 2x/day.  Holly is a very good girl about getting all of her medications. Her skin is improving. The doctor thinks it’s an allergy. We’re going to try a hypoallergenic oatmeal shampoo for her to see if she improves further.  Holly is now ready for her new home for the new year!

12/19/23-After a few days of decompression and must needed rest, Holly is starting to feel better. She’s been exploring her new surroundings inside and outside the house. She’s even romped around in the yard! She picked a toy chewed on it for a while. She’s eating a little better and is such a good girl about getting all of her medicines. Romping around in the yard is more exercise than she is used to and her body is still recovering from surgery. So, she sleeps a lot. She also sleeps through the night and has not yet made a peep. She still needs more time to recover but every day she’s improving. Around people, Holly is still very shy and scared, especially if we’re standing or walking. She lays down submissively and as if to make herself small and disappear into the floor. She prefers if we’re sitting on the floor with her. She’ll eventually come right up to say hello and will let us give her head rubs and scratches under her chin. She seems to know she’s been rescued and she’s learning that not all humans are bad. Around our dogs, she curious about them but shows no signs of aggression. She’s not ready to join them in their mission to defend or home from Amazon delivery drivers just yet.
More updates coming soon.

12/16/23-Holly Jolly, our newest foster, is a 5 year old survivor from a horrific puppy mill. She arrived today thanks to an amazing network of volunteers from Second Chance Boxer and Friends Rescue. This little mamma is in pretty rough shape. She is sad, shy and scared. She needs peace, rest and time to heal. She’s welcome to stay here for as long as she needs. We will give her the love she needs and deserves. We will teach her that not all humans are bad, mean or scary. She will learn to be a member of a loving family and hopefully, when she is ready, she’ll find her forever home with a family that will spoil her for the rest of her life. On Thursday 12/28 she has her eye sutures out & soon after should be ready to go home for the new year!

12/15/23-Holly Jolly is a beautiful & sweet but right now very scared 5 yr old female French bulldog. She was saved from being killed by a puppy mill as they just got done breeding her. She arrived safely into rescue tonight thanks to her transport & overnight foster home volunteers. She was spayed, had teeth cleaning with 1 tooth pulled, lower lid entropian surgery on both eyes. In addition she has a bacteria infection in her ears which she is being treated for. Finally she also has dry eye in her right eye where her tear ducts aren’t working properly. This is quite typical of her breed. She will need eye drops in that one eye twice a day for the rest of her life. We recommend her new owner switch her to cyclosporine drops as in our experience it works better & is a more reasonable cost. Plus she has oral antibiotics & eye antibiotic ointment until her sutures are out in 10-14 days. Her skin coat is very poor too so the vet did a scraping & not mange. Often it is just poor diet & stress & being breed so much. She is now on good food, plenty of water & the antibiotics will help too. This poor mill ex momma is a hot mess but on the way to feeling better! More updates from her foster home soon.
