1/21/24-Freddie update!  Everyone that meets Freddie has the same reaction: “Awwww he’s so cute! His face!”  He just has this look.  It pulls you in.  And then he melts in your hands when you’re petting him and does his paw wrap trick and game over!  Freddie has been recovering well from his neuter surgery.  He hasn’t needed a cone of shame as he has not even attempted to monkey with his sutures.  We are finding that Freddie is definitely more of a “Netflix and chill” type of dude.  He doesnt jump on people or kids.  And if you aren’t interacting with him, he just enjoys lounging in a comfy spot and watching what everyone is doing.  Freddie really enjoys a walk.  He still stays on my left side and doesn’t pull.  He just keeps his nose up and breathes it all in (and he sounds like a typical boxer😜).  He likes the snow – sometimes he takes a little taste here and there which my kids find hilarious.  We gave him a toy a few days ago.  At first he had no idea what to do with it.  But now he will tug at it, chew it, and carry it in and out of his crate.  I think he likes it:).  Freddie has done excellent with crate and potty training.  He’s happy to go in his “home” and just relaxes (or sleeps) when in there.  And he hasn’t has an accident in the house since 2 days after he came to our home.  Some other things Freddie has found out he enjoys: belly rubs, “brushies” (the girls brush him while they are brushing their hair LOL), ear scratches, watching me make coffee in the morning (🤷🏼‍♀️).  He is very gentle when taking treats.  He has not eaten hard kibble or hard treats since being here & I’ve tried several times. The vet had noted that Freddie had worn teeth, which is common with the mill dogs. He may also have just been fed a slop type feed & not use to hard food yet.  I wet his kibble about a half hour before his two meal times, and he gets soft treats (still bougie, just soft).  I will also add a vet recommended additive to his water for tartar/plaque buildup.  Overall he is such a gentleman.  He just loves the love.  And is here for any love you want to give him! He is a very very good dog!

1/18/24-Surgery was successful. Freddie is home and resting comfortably. It’s been a long 7 days for this sweet pea. So happy he’s back “home” and resting in his “spot”. Now he can find his forever home!
1/16/24-Freddie has ventured out of his crate with  lot less anxiety these past few days and he is a very chill dog. He has decided his favorite spot to lounge is on this dog bed right in the epicenter of our lives. (My ex took my other dog for a few days so Freddie could relax without the pressure of him in his face).  Freddie is very good with “sit” and “home”; he definitely knows his name now, and we have taken several walks where he prefers to be on my left side at all times and wags his tail and sniffs the sweet smell of freedom the whole way!  We had a bunch of children (8-12) at our house for the Buffalo Bills game yesterday, and he is completely unfazed by an active household. He will go to anyone for “pets” and attention, and he does the cutest thing and wraps his paw around your arm while you are petting him which I think means he is thankful for the love. When he’s lounging on the dog bed, and I leave the room, he does not follow me… I do not find him to have any separation anxiety. He was quiet in his crate the first few nights and then last night he started barking, and actually told me he had to go outside! He is a totally different dog in just a few days. It makes my heart melt. He has no aversion to men either. Melts right in the neighbor’s hands and my ex has come twice and he walks right over to him (and anyone for that matter). I know that’s a big question with mill dogs. His neuter was also moved up to this Thursday 1/18 too so he will be ready to go home after that!

1/14/24-Freddie is starting to figure things out. He is doing very well with potty training – we stay on top of it to make sure he doesn’t have any accidents. He is miffed about walking so just follows me wherever I go. No pulling or dragging though. He is learning “sit”, “home” for his crate (which he is very very comfortable in).  He decided he would also like a spot on the couch so I let him try it out. He’s still very overwhelmed outside of his crate so we do short spurts – 30 to 40 minutes tops. He sleeps all night in his crate without a peep. He is starting to explore the house a little more each time he is out of the crate. But you can tell he’s unsure so we supervise him. He hasn’t tried to chew on anything at all.  And his most favorite thing ever is to be pet and loved on. He’s doing great. We are being patient with him and he’s learning all about living in a real home. A little later in day he came out and settled (finally!) and is passed out snorin! Lol Freddie is slowly but surely figuring out how to be a dog!  Life in a house and outside of the crate is a little overwhelming for him, so we do shorter time frames where we let him do his own supervised exploring. He basically looks to me for reassurance (which is great – it shows he will look to his human for guidance) and when he explores he “checks in” every few minutes.  The past few days he wasn’t able to wind down outside of the crate, but today he decided to try all the lounging spots he could find within a certain radius. He even crept up on the couch and rested his head on my lap. He is super super people friendly. He loves a good ear scratch, head rub, and words of praise. (He also loves bougie treats which is helping with potty training).  His little boxer tail wags so hard I’m worried it might fly off! LOL He is a follower so he doesn’t drag or pull on a walk. My girls are teaching him “sit”, “home” (for his crate) and “come here”. He recognizes his name and I’m fairly certain he has started to smile♥️ He’s our first foster and I hope we are setting him up to find his forever home! He is scheduled to now be neutered on Tuesday Jan 23rd & he will be ready to go home after!

1/12/24-Freddie is doing great!  He’s such a little sweetie – follows the humans around. Not really interested in my rambunctious 2 year old Boxer boy yet. Freddie is a little overwhelmed which is normal since yesterday was such a a wild day for him and now he is in a new place.   He slept all night in his crate and we are working on where to “go outside”.  He’s a little old love muffin!

01/11/24-Freddie is a handsome & very sweet 8 year old male reverse brindle (looks black) & white boxer. He was saved from a puppy mill as they were just done breeding him. He arrived safely into rescue tonight thanks to his transport volunteers. He is being neutered on Tuesday 1/30 & will be ready to go home after that.  More updates soon from his foster home.
