2/7/24-Sadie must know I’m pregnant and has been working hard to prepare me for parenthood! She loves to be carried around, swaddled under ten blankets, and still has a bit of diarrhea so she wakes me up a couple of times a night to go out LOL. She is the sweetest little girl and just loves to be loved on.
She was excellent for her grooming appointment but unfortunately had to be shaved down as her hair was completely pelted. It must have felt so good because she fell asleep standing up while she was getting shaved. Though she is feeling and looking better, Sadie is getting used to being nakey. She is very cold without her hair so we went shopping for a couple of sweaters and she is much happier now. Her future owner will need to stay on top of grooming appointments as she has a poodle coat with very tightly coiled hair that can get matted quickly.
Sadie’s favorite places are the bed, the couch, and asleep on my lap while I work. She is a very low maintenance dog that just wants to be near her humans.
She doesn’t have a big appetite and we are still trying to figure out what foods do and don’t upset her stomach. We don’t know what she ate before she came to us, but historically our fosters have been fed low quality food so it’s a bit of a transition to get them used to real nutrition and with her being so tiny it’s taking a bit longer to adjust! We do know that she loves all kinds of meat and Charlee Bear treats and will dance and spin around on her hind legs to get some. She isn’t super interested in kibble still.
We left Sadie alone for an hour yesterday and she just went upstairs and slept in our bed LOL. She takes any opportunity to try to get us to go up to bed with her and it’s really funny to try to watch her to convince us.

2/5/24-Perfect dog alert! The past couple of days with Sadie have been so fun. We are really enjoying her sweet personality. I can confidently say that she is potty trained and house trained. We spoiled her a bit too much with steak last night and she had diarrhea a few times. Each time she woke me up and waited to relieve herself until we were outside. She knows the words “Do you have to go potty?” and will run to the front door to go out even if we’re upstairs when I ask.
I’m a big sucker with all my fosters so she’s sleeping in the bed with us, but she curls up in a ball by the pillows and sleeps through the night unless she has to go potty, and then she wakes us up to go out, does her business and goes right back to bed. She LOVES the bed and the couch. Clearly I don’t spoil my fosters at all. She also loves ham, steak, butternut squash and cheese. She’s eaten a bit of kibble but seems to not love crunchy food that much so her future family might want to mix in wet food or broth to make it easier on her little mouth!
Even though Sadie is only 12lbs she is starting to play with my big dogs (biggest one being 90lbs so she sure is brave!) She loves cuddling with them almost as much as she loves using them as stools to gain some height! Sadie has some springs in her paws and loves zooming around the house, dancing on her hind legs, and running up and down the stairs. When she wants to cuddle in bed she will run up and down the stairs and point for me until I get the memo that I’m supposed to follow her up.
We go on several long walks a day. Sadie loves walking and being outside. She stays right by our sides and I don’t feel that she is a flight risk. She would be a great companion for a family who likes to hike or take long walks and then come cuddle on the couch.
Sadie does not have a mean bone in her body. She would do well in any situation–males, females, pack or no pack. I don’t have a way to kid test her, but given her history and demeanor I feel she would be fine with kids of any age. She just wants to be by her people and please them.
We found a groomer to give us a generous discount to fix up Sadie’s super matted and dirty coat (thank you Hazel and Cleo in Ballston Spa, NY!!!) so she will feel like a whole new woman by tomorrow). I can’t wait to see her transformation and have her feeling better!
One final thing about Sadie is that she is FASCINATED by screens. She was terrified of our tv at first and now she can’t stop watching it. She’s even sitting on my lap, staring at my computer screen as I type this LOL. Typical toddler. Her new family might need to buy her an iPad (just kidding!)
Don’t wait to apply for this sweet little girl if you’re interested in adopting your new best friend!

2/3/24-Introducing our newest foster, Sadie! She is a 1.5 year old toy golden doodle weighing only 12 lbs at full size! She arrived 2/1 thanks to her transport & temporary foster home. Sadie was originally purchased from the puppy mill as a young pup as a pet and was part of a family until the kids grew tired of her. She was relocated to the barn where she was unfortunately neglected until the owners agreed to surrender her to the rescue after the neighbor contacted rescue. Despite her rough last few months she is the absolute sweetest girl. She loves her people (even males!) and cuddling. Sadie was great in the car and slept the whole way home in the passenger seat. Her overnight foster told us that she was good in the crate and seemed to be house trained. Sadie doesn’t mind my big dogs but hasn’t tried to play with them yet. Her coat is in pretty rough shape and will require a shave down. We will do our best to trim back some of the worst parts and give her a bath. Sadie is getting spayed on 2/12 and will be ready to go home after!
