3/8/24-Today she is more confident in finding me in the home when she chooses. She now also knows some words: come; crate. outside and home, however she can be oblivious at times. Lol She will eat chopped boiled chicken with her dry food.

3/4/24-My daughter brought her 2 year female boxer Macha over today to see how Tanzi would do since I don’t have any other dogs. Tanzi was mildly interested but nervous. Macha is a lot of energy though. My daughter started loving on Macha & Tanzi came out of the crate to observe through a baby gate & her tail was wagging & she was happy looking. Tanzi eventually came to gate on her own to sniff Macha through the baby gate. I think if there is another calm dog in her new home & not a wildly playful one Tanzi would be fine. She also let my daughter sit with her & pet her & scratch her under her chin. Tanzi will need a very patient home willing to help her come out of her shell.

3/3/24-Yesterday, Tanzi finally let me see her underbelly so she is getting more trusting. She met two other adults today in my home. Just watching her it appears she preferred my brother, not my sister in law. Still cowers and a bit timid when I call her and reach to pet her, but slowly getting better. Still no interest in toys…..does not get on furniture or eat anything that falls on floor (at least as of today). Refuses any type of treat/cookie. I’ve tried peanut butter, pumpkin, apples, carrots. Poor girl just never had treats or toys so doesn’t know what to do. She’s gettimg better on the leash using a harness. She’s learning ‘HOME’ which is word to turn around. Still leery of steps going into house.

2/26/24-Tanzi is doing much better & has had no accidents since the first day. She is still very timid & skittish but we know she will come around once she knows she is never going back to the mill life. As long as you approach her very slowly, she doesn’t back away. She is a sweetie for me, no aggression at all. She is now semi-comfortable with going outside. Good appetite now but is still not used to dry food so needs a little canned gravy to get her to eat it. We know some mill dogs are fed a slop type food so they are not used to hard food & take time to adjust. She is still pretty laid-back and quiet, hangs out in her crate most of the day with the door open & likes to go in/out as she chooses.  Tanzi is now walking well too with her tail up & quite curious. With more leash walking practice she will do even better. It’s no longer felt she needs to have a fenced yard.  She is less scared of vehicles too now on her walks. She rarely barks, even when we’re outside.Tanzi would do great with other dogs around too as it would probably help her come out of her shell even more & learning how to be a part of a home. Tanzi is ready to go home!

2/23/24-Tanzi is slowly making progress to life outside the puppy mill. She was introduced to 10 & 13 yr old kids & was very nervous. They were able to pet her as long as I was near Tanzi & talking/praising her. For this reason teens & up or no kids/quieter type home will be best for Tanzi. Today was the first day she met other humans at my house when i was not home & she refused to come out of her crate as she was too nervous. She is getting better in her crate but today decided she doesn’t want a cover on her crate anymore & pulled the cover inside. LOL She is doing well with her house training as long as I take her out regularly as right now she doesn’t “alert” to be taken out (I aim for 3x a day).  She’s making slow progress with leash training. The slip leash didn’t work (spinning/flipping) so I am using a harness she wears all the time to get used to it.  Today was the first time her tail was up and mostly in front of me (she’s a zig zag walker).  She is petrified of motor vehicles at the moment. For all this we really don’t feel she would not be a good city type dog & probably a fenced yard would be good for her as leash walking will be something that will need a lot more work on in her new home. Tanzi is very sweet though & no aggression.  She will just need a patient home willing to help her through her transition to being a real dog in a home & loved.

2/19/24-I finally managed to get Tanzi to eat yesterday with a bit of bribery. Some of a jar of baby food meat seems to work quite well in addition to liverwurst. I’ll have to remember that trick going forward. She seems to not mind going out on a leash. She doesn’t didn’t drag me. Does a lot of circling and only one accident inside so she did what she needed to this morning which made me very happy. A bit of a challenge to actually get her to stand up and go outside with a little persuasion. So far so good. Tanzi seems pretty laid back, sleeps well in crate (still needs physical assistance to go in). This morning after our walk she’s choosing to lay in front of the credenza with the TV on it instead of inside her crate. Big improvements!

02/16/24-Tanzi is a gorgeous golden colored 5 year old moyen(aka: medium) goldendoodle (moyen poodle/golden retriever). She was saved from a puppy mill as they were just done breeding her. She arrived safely into our rescue tonight thanks her transport volunteers. She is already spayed so once we get to know her some she will be ready to go to her new home. Updates soon from her foster home.
