3/24/24-Saoirse continues to make progress in adjusting to life outside the mill. She does great in the crate during the day. She does not make any noise at all. She waits calmly for me to come in and let her out of the crate, too. She is doing well with housebreaking. She has not had any accidents. We walk around the backyard and she will go. If I am home during the day with her I usually let her out every couple hours or so. I am not completely sure she is housebroken though. She doesn’t have a “tell” as to when she needs to go out yet, most likely because I treat her like a puppy in training and just bring her out. She is not a fan of the cold, wet weather, but who is? She does well on leash. If it is cold out and she does not want to walk she will dig in and protest, but a gentle pull and encouraging words and she is off. Saoirse prefers wet food. I have been mixing in kibble with her wet food – about 50/50 and add a little bone broth to mix it up and she eats it up. I sometimes put down just the kibble and she sniffs it and walks away as if to say, ya right, give me the tasty stuff. LOL She is not a big treat eater at all yet. She does like the meaty tasting ones so she took her Heartgard and Nexgard without issue. She sits patiently while I give administer her eardrops and inspect her ears. She allows me to rub her belly and check her incision, too. I brush her and she enjoys that as well. She can’t get enough of human touch. Her favorite spot is on the couch with me. She jumps down to see where I go when I leave the room. She’s a very low key girl. I am not sure how playful she is with other dogs. Upon meeting another dog she was curious, but did not engage in play. She’s super nervous meeting new people, no aggression just shakes and pees. Once she sees they are nice and mean no harm, after a little bit she goes up to them and lets them pet her. Her new home will need to understand this & be willing to work with it. She will do better with a quieter house without a lot of people/kids coming a going in & out all the time. Saoirse is doing well considering she has only been in rescue for a little over a week. I am in love with her. She is the best cuddle buddy. She will rest her head in the crook of my neck in bed and snuggle right in. She loves to give kisses too…. She’s so affectionate.  I think she is the absolute best & she is ready to go home!

3/20/24-Saoirse is slowly settling in to life outside of the mill. She is a super sweet dog. She LOVES to cuddle ALL THE TIME. She is a pretty mellow and lazy dog. She doesn’t have a ton of energy yet. I am not sure if that is because she is still in recovery from her spay surgery or if this is her personality. She is still very timid and shy, but once she bonds with a human she is your shadow. She will follow me around the house except for upstairs because she is still learning to use them. She has met one other person so far. She was very nervous, but curious.

Saoirse still hasn’t gained much of an appetite yet. She is a pretty picky eater – likes canned food, but not dry food, even when I mix the two together. I am still trying to figure out the right mixture of what she likes. She is not treat motivated so when going outside, she needs to be called or led outside or carried. She walks well on a leash with a harness. Sometimes she can be a little stubborn if she doesn’t feel like walking, usually when the weather is colder. When she realizes we are heading home, she is full steam ahead!
Potty training is going well. She has only had one accident in the house. She has peed out of nervousness when coming out of the crate. She does really well in the crate during the day. She is quiet throughout the day unless there is something she hears. At night, she sleeps in bed with me. I fell asleep one night reading and didn’t put her in her crate and she has been spoiled ever since. She is the best cuddle buddy. She gives kisses and snuggles right in next to you. It is the best feeling in the world! She sleeps through the night and is a lazy girl in the morning.
Saioirse does fine with cats, but if they get in her space when she is around me, she tries to scare them off. Other times she is unphased by them.  I cannot stress enough how sweet this girl is! I am still having a hard time getting her drinking. I’ve tried everything and she takes no more than a few laps of water. Saoirse will need a little more time in rescue before we will be looking for her match. We want to be sure she is eating & drinking better, which for some mill dogs it just takes a little more time to adjust.

3/16/24-Saoirse (Ser-sha meaning liberty/freedom) is a little timid and shy right now but wants to be around her person. She explored the back yard, but always remained close to me. When she did venture off and was called, she came running to me. She loves affection. She walks well on a leash, with harness or collar, but will stop and want to go back home. She did really well her first night in her foster home. She relaxed on the sofa with her temporary foster rescue next to her as well as 3 cats. She slept through the night in her crate next to her temporary foster rescue and the crate was clean and dry. She prefers to eat in her crate. When I left her in the crate for a few hours I put her food in there with her since she didn’t eat it earlier and she ate it. She did fantastic by herself in the crate when left alone. She did not bark or whine. She sat in her crate while I was bringing in groceries and unpacking/putting them away. She is also fine being the only dog in the house. She takes her medications and ear drops well and enjoys being pet and fussed over. I know there is a playful side to her just waiting to come out. I am looking forward to seeing this precious girl flourish. She is off to a wonderful start free from the mill and living in a home.

03/15/24-Saoirse (pronounced “Sur-Shuh) is a beautiful 5-year-old little female mini Goldendoodle (miniature poodle/Golden Retriever). She was saved from being killed by a puppy mill as they just got done breeding her. She arrived safely into rescue tonight thanks to her transport volunteers. She was spayed, had her teeth cleaned (no extractions needed) & is being treated for yeast in her ears with drops for 7 days. Once we get to know her a little better she will be ready to go home!
