3/24/24-Aaliyah made it to her foster home today. She is not nervous here, still hanging out in the crate on her own though. She did meet my roommate’s black lab nose to nose. Of course she wanted to follow him around and keep sniffing his tail end. Lol But she’s not afraid of him so that’s a good thing. I’m just letting her hang out today and get used to the sounds of the house.

3/24/24-Day 7 update. Freya is an active energetic sweetheart! She’s also the true definition of a velcro dog. Freya will follow me into every room of the house seeking attention and reassurance. Closer to me than my own shadow!  Freya will need to be adopted by someone that works from home or work opposites/retired/at home parent, etc to minimize the amount of time she spends in a crate, at least initially. Freya has separation anxiety when left alone, even for 15 min. It’s for her safety that she must be crated when left alone in the house.
We’re still working on crate training. She’s up to 30 min in the crate, once every two hours while I’m home. The longest she’s made it is two hours. Not bad for the first week! But if I’m being honest, she does not enjoy being in the crate and tries with all that boxer determination to get out. A sturdy high quality crate will be needed. To help ease her anxiety,  I fill a Kong with fat free sugar free plain yogurt and freeze it.  Giving her the Kong seems to keep her distracted while in the crate for a longer period of time. I also have left music or the tv on for her. It’s not Freya’s fault, she just loves to be with her humans!!  She is now ready to go home.

3/20/24-Day 4 update. Sweet Freya has been with us a few days now. She’s a go with the flow kind of pup. If you want to watch a movie she’ll curl up with you on the couch. Errands to run, no problem, she’ll navigate around town with you. Want to take a nap, to the bed she goes! Wanna go for a walk or hike, she’s ready waiting at the door! Crate training is still a work in progress but she’s making positive momentum forward. Freya has done well with the dogs she’s been introduced to. She’s young, and has allot of energy, especially when she sees a fur friend to play with. There have been no issues so far, but because of the amount of excitement and energy, a slow leashed introduction is ideal. She’s showing playful curiosity towards the cat. Freya wants to play, while the cat wants to sleep. I think with a few more days, they may be buddies!  Big trucks make her nervous when they drive by, especially while out walking. I think it’s the rickety rattle of the metal on the trucks that makes her uneasy. I reassure her with pets and she seems to relax almost as if she knows I’m telling her she’s safe. For the most part she is well trained. She’ll sit, stay (for a moment or two), takes treats and food gently, and will shake hands. She will immediately sit and wait at the door while you put her harness on to go out. There is some jumping up when she gets excited or after the zoomies. She working on that too & are making progress everyday.

There have been no potty accidents in the house. Freya steps on a button that’s placed at the door to alert me she needs to go out. There is usually whining that follows the button. She makes it through the night without issue!

3/18/24-Freya came into foster care yesterday. This petite lady is an absolute sweetheart. She greets everyone she meets with a butt wiggle and kisses. Freya walks well on a leash on her harness and rode great in the car. She is potty trained and uses a button to alert that she needs to go outside. 90% of the time she goes potty, the other 10% she is checking up on the resident squirrels. LOL We’re working on crate training as she is showing signs of separation anxiety when left alone.  She loves to be with people! Freya may be small, but her energy is big. A fenced in yard is ideal, she’s a runner!  She did very well meeting my 12 year old child. But I do think she’s a bit too puppy for smaller children, she still mouths the hands when playing. On the plus side, she was easily corrected and immediately stopped when I gave her a toy in place.  Her first night went well. No night time potty break needed. More updates to come as we get to know this sweet girl!

03/17/24-Freya is a beautiful spayed & up to date 15 month old boxer owner surrender from a very loving home. They got her from another owner in November but then had unexpected personal issues & sadly could not take Freya with her. Owner said she loves snow & ice. Needs aggressive chew toys only, will swallow stuffed animals. Great temperament, knows basic commands. Typical boxer energy, favorite games are tug of war & fetch. Needs fenced yard if off leash as she is a runner  Also said she needs to use a harness when walking or she will slip her collar to go for an unplanned run. Lol She is doing great on Victor chicken & rice dog food & only human grade treats, no human food as it causes pancreatitis. Owner also said Freya is very quiet in the house. She works from home so she says it’s awesome she doesn’t have to worry about Freya barking when she’s in a call. She laughed saying she definitely doesn’t protect the house. Lol
