4/16/24-Aaliyah is really starting to trust me. She walks well on leash, usually behind me or close to my left foot. Much better walking while traffic is going by too.  She is better with ‘come’ and will walk out from her “safe spot” to go outside. Vet said her teeth are bad, may need some extractions at some point during a dental cleaning after in her new home. I’m still feeding her dry food with some warmed canned food due to her dental issues. Just started trying small/tiny treats. She is a quiet girl & have not heard her barked. Aaliyah rides great in the car, even took her into Home Depot today with no issues. Will need to be shown how to play eventually. Still can be timid when being approached, no aggression just shy. She unfortunately is not so cooperative taking pictures but you can see her beautiful fur growing back in the newest picture. Good news at her 2nd pre-spay appointment yesterday, her spay is now next Monday 4/22 so she will be ready to go home a couple days after that! With a little more time adjusting to a normal life, we know Aaliyah will show everyone she is one in a million!

4/4/24-Aaliyah is less timid now. She is slowly drinking from a bowl, usually at night. Doesn’t want to be in her crate. She’s started to follow me around the house when the other dog here is outside or gone for part of the day. Big improvement in leash walking. Working still on ‘come’…….likes naps and her covers.

3/31/24-It seems this morning that Aaliyah is too tired to eat her breakfast all at once & now is eating breakfast in bed! She’s finally drinking water from a bowl, only at night right now but that’s progress to me. The vet decided they could not spay her for 90 days due to her heat cycle. We don’t want to hold up her spay so long since Aaliyah deserves to get to her new home sooner.  We have another prey spay appointment at a different vet on Tuesday 4/16 & hope to get a spay date there soon after. Once she is spayed Aaliyah can go to her new home.

3/28/24-Miss Aaliyah likes covers. She’s not using her crate much as her safe place, prefers this spot next to the crate. No accidents in the house.  We will keep working on her confidence.
3/27/24-Maybe Aaliyah thinks she’s a statue? She is better at eating…if you don’t watch her! Still having to syringe liquids in right now. Walks good on leash (behind me, lol). Potty training excellent but will only do it on asphalt so far, no grass, not even to walk a very long time on it. She must have had a kennel with a concrete floor. Big learning curve for both of us. Does prefer crate but….we snuggled in my ‘life sucking recliner’ last night. Lol

3/25/24-Another update-Tis only day 2 for Aaliyah in foster care. Found a sweatshirt to keep her warm and a harness. She walked behind me past 3 houses with no struggle!!! Starting to potty outside; definitely very timid and trembles at any noise right now. Her appetite is good; still not drinking from a bowl but did let me syringe water into mouth and then she started licking the tip. So hard for these mill dogs to understand water always being available & regularly being feed.
3/25/24-Aaliyah had her pre-spay appointment this morning. The said she has a Grade 2 heart murmur (nothing to do about it at this low grade) and may be starting or ending her heat cycle. They won’t spay her until 5 weeks out due to her being in heat so her spay is scheduled for Tuesday April 30th. We won’t be looking to find Aaliyah’s match for her new home until closer to her spay. In the meantime watch her page for updates as she settles in.

3/22/24-Both girls are doing great.  They had a late night bath last night and did quite well.  Then they laid by the fireplace to warm up and enjoyed their dinner.  I haven’t seen either drink yet but that is normal for mill dogs.  They also both cuddled up next to each other and slept all night – not a peep! Both are such sweeties!

03/21/24-Aaliyah is a sweet little 5 year old Shih-poo (toy poodle/shih tzu). She was saved from a puppy mill along with Clover as they were just done breeding them. They arrived safely into rescue today thanks to their transport & temporary foster volunteers.
We are working on getting Aaliyah in for her spay & shots updated. She appears she may be in heat which may delay her surgery. Once she is spayed Aaliyah will be ready to go home. More updates from her foster home soon.
