4/5/24-Marina did great with her spay on Wednesday and is recovering very well.  She’s not fussing with her incision and all systems are go!  My vet cleaned her ears and determined they were not infected, just dirty from the farm & neglect.  I’ve continued cleaning them and putting drops in daily and she’s nearly back to normal.  Every day we fall more in love with this girl – even my husband is smitten & says “she only has positives”.  She is still a little timid and will tremble at times but she’s beyond sweet & gentle.  She loves to roll onto her back and get belly rubs.  I think she would be ok with cats though I have not tested her, and a sweet dog to help develop her confidence.  She’s very quiet – doesn’t bark or whine, and surprisingly she doesn’t startle with loud or unexpected noises!  She’s quiet in her crate and willingly goes in with treats or food.  She found the dog beds and seems to melt into them, cozy as can be!  She doesn’t let me out of her sight & follows me everywhere I go.  When we go outside, she whacks the back of my calves as we are walking to get my attention – it’s sooooo cute!  She will also creep towards me & place her paw on me if I’m not sitting close enough to her on the couch.  She has never had an accident in the house and is fantastic on a leash.  Today was the first time she played for a few minutes (gently) with my boxer boy and I was so proud of her!  She also showed interest in some chew toys and a ball.  I love seeing her come out of her shell a little more every day.  OMG I’m nearly tearing up writing this – you really can’t find a better dog than Marina.

3/31/24-Oh my gosh, there is soooooo much to say about this lady so let’s just start with the basics.  Outwardly, Marina is gorgeous – despite the horrible hair cut she got before coming in to rescue.  She was likely filthy, matted, and uncomfortable so at least this is the start of her feeling better overall.  Once she relaxes & trusts me a little more, I’ll work on evening up her hot cocoa coat!  My husband said she has a white “Nike” swoosh on the back of her neck so she is destined to run & maybe do agility classes!  Inwardly, she is a little confused and sad right now.  She’s been thru a lot in her short life as a breeder, and over the past few busy days as she was coming into rescue.  However, she’s already soaking up all the attention she can get from hubby & I.  She likes to lay on the couch between us and nuzzle her head into us, has already figured out how to jump up.  And her eyes are so soulful and will melt you – they seem to say “is this a dream?  what do I do with all these snuggles & kisses I’m getting?”  She did fine meeting our pack & was very submissive – will lay down & show her belly.  She’s not eating or drinking a lot but is quiet as a mouse in her crate, which she keeps nice & dry.  The intake vet indicated she had ear infections so has cleaner and drops which I will work with to clear up.  She will go to my vet on Wednesday for spay and a double check of her ears, with a more thorough flush while under anesthesia if needed.  Marina is truly an Easter blessing and I’m already in love with her and can’t wait to see her glow up! she’s just amaaaazing!

3/29/24-It’s been nearly impossible to get a non-blurry photo of Miss Elsa who is staying with us for a mere 36 hours while she awaits the next leg of her freedom ride tomorrow morning. I dug through Chooch’s sweaters last night and found one that was just big enough since she was definitely cold from being shaved down (probably from severe matting). The moment I put it on her I could feel Chooch’s spirit envelop her and say it was all going to be okay. She slept through the night and is taking another well-deserved nap. Her giant sighs are music to my ears as she continues to decompress.  More updates from her foster mom soon.

03/28/23-Marina is sweet 3 yr old brown & white Portuguese Water Dog. She came into rescue today from a breeder farm as they were just done breeding her. Thank you to her transport & temporary foster home volunteers. She came in shaved down so she must have been really matted but will be gorgeous when her hair comes in! She has an ear infection is being treated for & her spay in next Wednesday 4/3. Once she is spayed & we get to know her a little more Marina will be ready to go home.
