5/9/24-Paisley is a whole new dog. Everyone who meets her loves her so much, though she definitely gets very attached to her humans. Paisley needs to go to a home with a fenced in yard or that will walk her on the leash. She cannot be on a tie out. We have learned that feeling contained or trapped is a major trigger for her. She was dragging her leash on a walk and it got caught on a rock and she panicked. She also hates when her leash gets caught under her arm, and will run away when it is time for me to clip her leash on. I let her go to a safe space and then sweet talk her and slowly attach it and she’s getting better. This is really the only issue that we have seen with her and that we’re still working through and it’s a minor one but we want to share so her new parents are prepared and give her a comfortable transition once she’s adopted.  Paisley has really started to enjoy bones and toys over the past couple of days. She has tried no hide sticks, beef trachea, buddy biscuits, raw marrow bones and raw chicken feet. Her favorites are the chicken feet and trachea and it is so heart warming finally seeing her find enjoyment in being a dog. I’ve mentioned this before, but Paisley is the sweetest, most cuddly dog. At 5pm every day when I’m done working she runs to the couch and wants to cuddle on my baby bump. I bet she was a great mama and senses that I’m pregnant too. She’s so gentle.  We’re happy to keep Paisley as long as possible, though we’d love to see her get adopted soon.

5/4/24-Paisley continues to be the sweetest girl ever. She is my little shadow and is so cuddly. She sleeps through the night and naps at my feet while I’m working. She’s getting used to our pack walks in the morning and being on a leash. She enjoys going out a few times a day to run in the back yard and lay in the sun but she isn’t a crazy dog by any means.  Paisley still isn’t interested in playing with my dogs but she will interact with them and be near them which is great progress. She respects boundaries and will eat next to my dogs without issue. We are still feeding a mix of wet food and kibble as she won’t eat kibble by itself yet.  Accidents have been minimal and I feel that Paisley would do fine without a crate as we haven’t needed to use one at all. She sleeps in bed with us or on the couch at night.
Her spay is healing beautifully and she hasn’t messed with it at all. This little girl loves being loved on and would be extra happy in a home where she is allowed on furniture and will be cuddled. Such a sweetheart & is ready to go home!

4/30/24-Paisley settles in more every day. She said hi to a couple of the cats that were also getting spayed yesterday but didn’t really seem interested in them and didn’t react when some of them got grumpy with her.  She’s still not interested in playing with my 2 dogs yet but she has laid next to them on the couch, kissed them, and hangs out close to them which are all huge improvements in just three days. Her primary concern is always her humans and where they are but she will hang out in the bed by herself too. We ran errands for a couple of hours over the weekend and left her out because we are giant suckers who once again failed at using the crate…but she was a perfect angel and we found her sleeping in the guest bedroom when we got back. We haven’t even heard her bark yet! Paisley loves my husband and cuddles up to him at night. She sleeps through the night except for when she has to go out, she will wake us up to let us know. We have only had two small accidents in the house, but otherwise she’s great about letting us know when she has to go out.

Paisley loves being outside and sleeping on the porch. She also gets the cutest zoomies and loves to run, but knows her name and has great recall. She got so excited on Sunday when we got home and let her out that she flew across our back lawn and into the middle of the pond. It was quite a surprise and probably her first time swimming, but she handled it like a champ. We are working on the leash. She does not like getting it clipped on and is a bit confused when she has it on so we have just been using the long leash in the back yard to give her some freedom for now. The good news is that she loves the car and riding shotgun. She will curl up in the passenger seat and fall asleep.
We are working on getting her to eat kibble, but she mostly prefers soft foods at this point so we have been mixing wet food into kibble to encourage her to eat both. She does have some tartar on her teeth from poor quality food at the “commercial breeder” as the dogs are often fed slop so her adopter will want to get her teeth checked out to make sure none are causing her pain. We’re really in love with this sweet, cuddly girl and feel that she will flourish in her forever home. She has SO much love to give and will be someone’s absolute best friend!

4/29/24-Paisley did well with her spay and is now relaxing. They couldn’t repair the umbilical hernia but said it’s not causing her pain & it’s just cosmetic so no repair needed anyway. I couldn’t find her when we got home and found her sleeping on the front porch. She just loves being outside. Everyone at the clinic just loved her and she had to give them all hugs and kisses. I should probably stop sharing how perfect she is because my husband wants her to stay longer! LOL She’s doing much better with my dogs and even let them kiss her face and inspect her when we picked her up today.

4/28/24-Paisley is the sweetest girl. She continues to be cautious with my dogs but doesn’t seem as fearful as she was yesterday. I think she would be fine with a dog sibling that will be patient with her and not get in her face, as well as a dog savvy adopter who knows how to facilitate positive interactions. When other dogs don’t get in her face she ignores them. She would also do fine as an only dog.
She loves lounging outside or in the guest bedroom and loves attention. She is particularly infatuated with my husband which is rare for dogs from commercial breeders (often they are more scared of men) and sticks right by his side. Her overnight foster said she was a good eater but she hasn’t been interested in kibble or treats yet with us. She does beg for human food and tries to counter surf but listens to correction and luckily is too short to reach anything. LOL We free feed and she doesn’t seem to have any food guarding which is great. She’s definitely well fed.
We have been working with Paisley on a 50 foot leash outside which is my favorite tool for testing boundaries. She gets the zoomies but otherwise stays right by our side and doesn’t want to wander. She has been great about doing her business outside and letting us know when she has to go out. My intention was to put her in the crate last night but my husband stayed up later than me and had different plans…I found them cuddled up in the guest room together this morning. Awww She’s incredibly well behaved and doesn’t get into anything so far. She doesn’t understand toys yet & is learning about modern sounds and conveniences (the tv was very frightening but she loves the car). We have already seen a big change in her in less than 24 hours and I think she will adjust quickly to her forever home as well.  I’ll send an update after her spay and hernia repair tomorrow.

4/27/24-Meet Miss Paisley! She is a 3.5 year old ex breeding mama that arrived here to her foster home today. This mini Aussie has the most beautiful coloring and loves being loved on. She seeks comfort from her humans and loves cuddles and kisses. She is a bit anxious after her long trip but is good at self soothing and is currently asleep outside in the sunshine. Paisley also let me know that she has never had an egg wrap from Dunkin and is now a huge fan. I wasn’t going to share on the car ride home but someone insisted. LOL She is very food motivated and will likely need to lose a couple of pounds. As long as my dogs don’t get in her face she is fine with them and ignores them. I anticipate that she will be a different dog in a couple of days when she is less stressed. Her overnight foster said that she did well in the crate so we will continue working on crate training. Paisley is getting spayed in two days and will be ready for her forever home soon after that!

04/25/24-Paisley is a beautiful 3 1/2 year old female red merle color mini aussie (miniature Australian Shepherd) from a commercial breeder that no longer needed her. She arrived into rescue today thanks to her transport & temporary foster home volunteers. She has an umbilical hernia that will be repaired during her spay on Monday 4/29. She will be ready to go home soon after her spay.
