5/26/24-What a big difference with Cricket in a week, he has really had a turn around. He came to my house last Saturday scared of everything – the dark, the outside, the grass, noises. Four days later he woke up in the morning & seemed to finally realize that there were dogs in the house and began to follow them around especially my little white one. They now sunbathe on the deck together, have zoomies in the grass. She showed him how to drink water out of a bowl. He’s still nervous to be picked up but he’s fairly calm and even when startled & there’s no nipping. In the evening he comes up on the chair with me and we watch TV together. He loves to sleep draped over the back of the couch. Right now he is still easily startled so would be best with older children. He really does well here with some dogs in the home to teach him the ways of the world. Cricket has a way to go but he’s ready to have a great life.
5/24/24-What a difference a day makes. It’s as if he woke up from a terrible nightmare. He saw that I had dogs and ran after them in the yard – seeing that they peed on grass and chased rabbits. He’s going to be a character. I put him on a chair knowing he wouldn’t move until I moved him, I turned around and he was gone. I found him on my bed looking at himself in the mirror. LOL I startled him trying to wipe his wet feet, he jumped but no nipping like when he first arrived & was so petrified.
5/19/24-Cricket arrived yesterday afternoon thanks to all his transporters. One of his transport volunteers said he did great on his travels to catch his next ride with another volunteer. He slept pretty much the whole way & was happy to be cuddled in his blanket. He is such a scared little boy right now, so nervous he sleeps sitting up. He has a good appetite though which is a good thing as he is very skinny and needs to put on a few pounds. I’ll be feeding him three times a day until he gains a little. He is happy in the crate but barked and would not settle at bedtime (maybe he’s never slept alone before). So the crate came into the bedroom and he slept through the night and kept a clean crate. He will be ready for his new home soon.
05/17/24-Cricket is a cute as a button 4-year-old male mini poodle. He came in today from a commercial breeder as they were just done breeding him. He arrived safely into rescue thanks to his transport & temporary foster volunteers. He was neutered & had a dental cleaning, but no extractions needed. He is very underweight right now so we expect he will be about 10 lbs filled out. Once we get to know him more he will be ready to go home.
