8/7/24-Leo experienced his first trail hike today. He did great! He follows the big guy right along but getting so brave!! He’s such a great pup. I hope he finds his furever home soon!

8/4/24-Leo just had his distemper booster today & we found his weight is actually only 20 lbs.  I imagine the first weight was a little inflated from all the fluff we’ve taken off of him! LOL For this reason we know feel he should only get to be about 30 lbs full grown. Leo is still waiting for his new home!

7/30/24-Leo came into the rescue a little over a month ago from a commercial breeder (just too old to sell). He was very skittish initially but has really warmed up to humans, not quite a lap dog yet but I believe will continue to make progress. He does enjoy sitting close to us and being pet, just not one to initiate contact yet. He has however bonded significantly to our dog, I think as a sort of security, and that’s the reason why we are hoping he goes to a home with another dog as he continues to come out of his shell. He pretty much has the potty outside routine down, we do crate time at night and during the day when we’re working and he doesn’t love it but settles, not destructive at all in our home outside typical puppy stuff. He’s a good boy just needs the right place to land.

7/28/24-This adorable face, perfect mix of ewok & wookie is still looking for his furever home only because no one applying for him has another dog!  He is slowly warming up to people (no aggression just shy) and is a great house guest but desires a furry partner in crime for extra security as he puts his puppy mill days behind him. If you’re looking for a furry companion for you and your pup he’s the one, or share to help him find his pack!

7/19/24-Someone’s gotta want this wookie / ewok jumping on their door every morning greeting them when it’s time to come back in.  Leo is growing quickly and far from the petrified little pup that came to our house a month ago. While he is still learning how to receive human affection there is no doubt he is happy & thriving!  He will be the perfect furry companion to another dog.  I just want him to feel as comfortable as possible so I hate to take away his biggest security blanket which is another pup so Leo is still here waiting.

(Since I’m a baby I need home with someone home more often. Ex: work at home, retired, at home parent, work opposite, etc)

7/7/24-So many firsts today! We’ve been nervous to take Leo out because of how skittish he is but wanted to start the process of slow socialization. I planned to hold him most of the time in a tight grip, but this guy decided he would like a pup cup and a leash walk. He did great! He is a brave boy when he has a confident dog to lead the way.

7/5/24-Hope everyone had a great 4th! 🇺🇸
Leo here is still looking for a home where personal space is more of a loose suggestion! LOL He will be the perfect puppy for someone looking for a best buddy for their other dog or dogs.  Leo will be sure the cuddle, play & keep him or her company. Don’t miss out on this cutie!

6/30/24-Happy Sunday from Leo! He’s getting used to us but his favorite is still our dog Rowan. He’ll do great in a home with another dog, hopefully the right family comes along soon, until then lots of Rowan snuggles.

6/26/24-Today is day 3 with Leo: He needed a bath on day 1 which he didn’t mind and we did some home grooming so the poor guy could see. But will definitely need a proper groom in the near future. His favorite thing is following our dog around, it boosts his confidence level and helps him explore. I think he may do best with another dog – but this dog must be tolerant. Leo likes to get up close and personal, I mean sitting on top of, frequent nose kisses, you get the idea. I think this will likely settle down as he gains some independence. And he’s a 5 month old puppy- he’s sure to adapt in most environments of course!
Still very timid of humans, we coax him out of the crate with our dog. And if he’s approached he will bolt, dodge and give you a run for your money- we’ve played lots of games of chase around the house! If you can get close enough though, he enjoys pets and it soothes him so I think just a matter of time until he knows humans can be nice. Leo started doing the stairs and is getting good at it (still has that cute doofy puppy waddle). Interestingly enough as skiddish as he is, once he’s out of the crate he does not want to be back in. It’s a bit of a wambulance most nights so far- we’ve done the blanket trick, crate near us / away from us, you name it.  The good news is that he is not a destructive guy. Mostly just wants to roam. We’ve been working on crate training though for his safety and future adopters of course. Occasionally we give in for the sake of our neighbors (and a few hours of sleep LOL). Definitely not going to be a good condo/apartment dog.  We haven’t done a full walk but he has been good on the lead in the yard. Eating and drinking normally! And a potty training champ. No marking behavior. Knows the routine thanks to shadowing our dog. With some patience and love he is sure to be a great

6/25/24-We had happy trots this morning from Leo! My husband and I still can’t get too close without him finding the closest object to crawl under but he is our very patient dog Rowan’s shadow. Picked the name Leo for bravery, I think we’re starting to see him shine!

6/23/24-Thanks to everyone who helped transport the pups yesterday!!! This is LEO. Poor guy is terrified right now, but does seem to love our dog- when he is out of the crate follows him everywhere. He isn’t fond of much yet aside from finding small spaces to crawl under. Have had a hard time getting close to him as humans. I am excited to see his transformation as he adjusts to life in a home.

06/21/24-Leo is a beautiful 5 month old red male cockapoo (standard poodle/cocker spaniel). They are larger sized cockapoos, so most likely had a standard instead of mini poodle as one parent. He came in with his brother Toby from a commercial breeder as they just got too old to sell. They arrived into rescue tonight thanks to their transport & temporary foster volunteers. He was neutered & is bigger than his brother so we estimate he will get to be around 40 lbs full grown max. These puppies won’t be here long!
