8/17/24-Hi everyone, it’s me Raffels. Foster mom says I can do my own update since I’m bigger than my brother. We are from the same litter, but I’ve been getting vitamin and protein rich puppy food longer and so I grew more. But Ruffles will catch up. Guess what, I love going potty in the yard, and running around in the yard and I figured out how to go down the stairs to. No stopping me, I’m a super puppy. And food…yum I love food, and if you give me cookies….well then I race my brother to get in the crate first. I love cookies. Yup even though I have some eye sight deficiencies, I CAN SEE mostly everything. I follow the dogs running and a lot of the time I lead the fun runs. I jump the stone wall and never bump into things, and guess what I can jump over my brother at a full run and keep on running just to be first in the lead. See I’m not disabled, I’m just a puppy. I also will do just fine as an only dog in my new home as I am very well adjusted & don’t seek out another dog all the time like some deaf dogs. So when can I come home and cuddle with you….and can I have toys please, I share well.
8/6/24-Raffels has just been having a blast in life. Once he discovered how to go down the deck stairs, he’s been unstoppable in his explorations and potty training. Yes he still has an occasional accident in the house, but he will help himself down the stairs and into the yard if he has access. He continues to have a clean dry crate at night, and does super eating his meals. Although we know he has some sight impairment, he is definitely not blind. He’s been doing well on learning some signs and responds well to learning a few more. So we are adding the sign for potty this week, and see how he does. This little ball of fluff is just the sweetest little guy & we can’t believe he’s still here!
7/21/24-Today is the day Raffels decided he could go down the deck stairs all by himself and help himself to the yard with the big dogs. Yesterday I still had to put him down the first step….then he’d go down the rest. “Mighty Mouse” is absolutely loving this new found freedom. There is no stopping this little pup now!
7/20/24-Raffels has been the best little puppy I’ve been blessed to foster. Yes, he is deaf, yes he is slightly vision impaired…..but he can see. He saw the vet & said his retinas are fully intact, he can see but unsure how much he can see & no way to know more. He never bumps into anything though. We also have tested him in a 30 X 30 ft room, with no distractions and while sitting with a friend of mine he visually followed me around the big room, every time I changed direction, his eyes followed. This was amazing to watch. As soon as I walked towards him he did his little dance anticipating my picking him up for snuggles and kisses.
Raffels has even learned his first sign. I hang my hand facing the floor and wiggle my fingers. That means come get lovin. He’ll run to me slapping his little cocker shaped feet when he gets close. Now how smart is that for just 9 weeks old. I just can’t say enough good things about this furry bundle of happiness. Although he’s not thrilled about being in his crate, he goes right in when I toss his treat cookies. He sees his cookies and runs right to them, as I put them in a different spot every time. He also has a clean dry crate every morning. For a puppy his age absolutely thrills me. Raffels currently lives with and plays with my 53 lb. boxer puppy, who can be rough, a 1yr old cocker foster dog and a 9 yr old Boston terrier with an attitude. He loves and plays with them all and he can tell who’s who by sight.
So imagine me playing and cuddling this boy while you decide he needs to grace your life. Raffels is ready for his new home!
07/11/24-Raffels is a cute as a button 8 week old male cockapoo (poodle/cocker spaniel). He came in today from a commercial breeder as he was found to be deaf. He arrived safely into rescue tonight thanks to his transport & temporary foster home volunteers. We estimate he will be about 35 lbs full grown. His initial vet checkup with our vet when coming into rescue today said he may also have some vision issues too. We will get Raffels to our regular vet on Monday for a more thorough look over.
