11/15/24-Ludo gets SO excited when I get home from work that it just wears him right out.  Then he’s ready for couch cuddles! Such a sweet boy!

11/13/24-Ludo was groomed yesterday! He is so naked, she only had a 1 inch guard for her clippers so that’s how long she left him. His ears look so good trimmed up & no more pee stained fur on his legs. Also, he finally successfully made it onto the couch. Now he’s lying on the couch like he’s been doing it all his life. What a potato!

11/12/24-Ludo is doing really well. He is becoming braver meeting people, eats and drinks well, sleeps through the night most nights, and has had no accidents in the house! Last night was his first night not being gated in the bathroom and he did wonderfully. He woke me up around 2 with a deep woof because he had to pee. He has started pawing at the front door to ask to go for a walk. He gets very nervous with raised voices, particularly deeper voices. He starts trembling and wants to hide. Ludo enjoys running around the yard with our Boxer and playing with her, and LOVES climbing his first half into my lap for pets and snuggles. We’ve discovered that he likes cheese, but he’s not really interested in any other “people” food so far.  Ludo is getting groomed today and will have his neuter done next week on Wednesday! After his neuter he will be ready to go to his new home.

11/11/24-Ludo’s second set of blood work done today came back totally normal! It was just an error in the running of it last week at the vet. His grooming is tomorrow & his neuter is next Wednesday & then he will be ready to go to his new home!

11/9/24-I swear that Ludo is a magical unicorn foster. His only “problems” right now are that he has to go in the back yard on a tie out or he will play chase instead of coming inside, and he absolutely will not use a crate. He gets gated in the bathroom instead. He hasn’t had a single accident inside. Sleeps all night. Woke me up at 5:22 because he had to pee but went back to bed until 7:30. Went out with the other dogs, came back in and went to the front door, looked at me, looked back at the front door. He wanted to go for a walk so he could poop! We saw another dog on our walk. He didn’t bark, didn’t pull, just looked at them. He doesn’t pull on a leash, he does walk counterclockwise circles around you until he has to pee though. LOL Then he’ll walk a little speedier until he does his poopy. He plays well with my boxer , she loves when she has another dog to play with. Ludo has his glow up on Tuesday with the groomer! I can’t wait to see what he looks like after. Hopefully it helps with his constant panting when he’s inside as we know his pounds of fur must be very hot.

11/7/24-I don’t want to jinx it but Ludo has not gone to the bathroom in the house AT ALL.
I just got home and we did maybe a five to eight minute walk and he was so tired he had to lay down to drink water when we got back inside. LOL We found out today he likes water in his food. Despite being quite nervous and having to hide all 85 pounds of himself in the corner behind my chair, Ludo was a gentleman at his pre-neuter vet appointment today.
He does have to get his blood redrawn though because his bloodwork came back with some weird results (white cells, protein & albumin levels all were high). Vet is going to do a redraw on Monday just in case it was a machine malfunction. He does have a yeast ear infection that we got medicine for. This big handsome mop has a donated groom on Tuesday courtesy of Tay’s Suds & Scrubs in Rochester,NY.  This big softie will be neutered on November 20th and will be available to a new home shortly after!

11/4/24-Ludo figured out how to chase Macha, our 3 yr old Boxer, around the yard. It is hilarious to watch him run! Right now he’s definitely more calm and comfortable outside than inside the house. He currently barks at sudden noises at night when he’s in the house. I startled Ludo when I came downstairs this morning and he barked at me. He also barked at the deep voices of the rock creatures in the Labyrinth movie we watched together.  Big scaredy baby! LOL We will get him used to being inside & all the new noises with a little time.

11/3/24-Hello! Dear Ludo arrived yesterday morning. He was very anxious most of the day yesterday with lots of panting and drooling (also probably very hot inside a heated house). We attempted a bath which didn’t go well. Water is terrifying, so we gave up on that for now and worked on just getting some coat care done. Ludo slept pretty well last night. We gated him in the bathroom, he was NOT about to walk into the “big scary crate”. My daughter slept in the hallway outside the bathroom until 3 when my husband got up to let Ludo out. They all ended up in the living room together. Awww!  I spent 8 hours (with lots of breaks) working on Ludo’s coat yesterday with a dematting comb. He has several inches of very long, really dirty, matted fur & I am trying to get all the junk and dead fur out of his coat. I’m using pony holders to hold the hair that’s “done” away from what I’m working on. LOL  He had some huge matts behind his ears and smaller ones on his neck, chest, in his armpits, and groin. He doesn’t mind being brushed. I didn’t make it to his belly, butt/tail, feet, or the backs of his legs. He still desperately needs a bath and better grooming, which I’m working on trying to find a local groomer to volunteer/donate to get him cleaned up asap.  This poor baby is a hot mess but he’s going to make a great gentle giant companion.

11/2/24-Ludo is MASSIVE. My daughter is 5’6”, I’m 5’2″ and his head comes up to the top of my hip. He doesn’t even fit under the kitchen table. At 85 lbs now he’s going to be a big goofball full grown! He also may have an ear infection in his left ear, we will have the vet check next week. He’s done two pees outside & gets all zippy outside.  He was so tired he fell asleep last night in the bathroom.

11/01/24-Ludo, name after the Labyrinth movie creature, is a huge, sweet 12 month old Standard Bernedoodle (Standard Poodle/Bernese Mountain Dog). He came in from a commercial breeder as he just got to old to sell. He arrived safely into rescue tonight thanks his transport & overnight volunteers. He has his pre-neuter appointment next Thursday 11/7 & then we will schedule his neuter asap after that. Once he is neutered this gentle giant will be ready to go home!
