One can only imagine what the first 3 years of her life was like for her. Fancy Nancy will need more time to gain confidence with her life outside a commercial breeder.
12/01/24-Fancy Nancy is very slowly coming out of her shell. She will not walk on a leash yet and has to be carried outside & is still very scared. Once outside she will run around the yard though & go back inside on her own without any issues. Nancy climbs the back porch stairs and will get herself on and off of a chair and a footstool by herself too. She does not bother my two cats & is okay with my other dogs but does not interact with them yet. She will run away from me but tends to whine when she wants to come closer but is still just too scared. Nancy is not eating very well yet. She has been refusing a variety of different dog foods both canned and dry. She will eat chicken from a plate and from a bowl though. Sometimes she will eat when someone is near and sometimes when no one is in the room. This morning Nancy ate some canned dog food that was mixed in with her chicken and for the first time she ate the dog food too so we may be on the right track. Today someone very near and dear to our rescue made some homemade dog food for her supper. Hopefully this will work too. Nancy will get nutritional gel to supplement her diet. Right now Nancy hides her face whenever someone comes to visit. She feels safe when she is either sitting on my lap or on the footstool next to the chair.

11/22/24-Fancy Nancy was spayed yesterday. You can hardly see her scar. She will now only lie down in the chair. Otherwise, she will sit and rest her head against whatever is near. She will dose off in that position. Fancy Nancy will need someone with patience in order to overcome the fears she has.
11/21/24-Fancy Nancy was spayed today. Sadly it wasn’t known to rescue until it was to late that she was very newly pregnant. It is our policy to save the pregnancy and save as many lives as possible. We are extremely sad that we failed to do so but we know it is not our fault. The initial vet check when she came into rescue said she may have a low grade 2 heart murmur. Our second vet who did her spay confirmed this is the case. She had no issues during her spay though & no follow up needed now. The murmur is just something to note as she gets older to monitor at yearly vet visits to watch. Fancy Nancy is sweet but still an extremely scared girl. She is too nervous to let herself relax and falls asleep standing up. She has only been out a week and has been through so much. More information to follow as we get to know Fancy Nancy better.
11/18/24-Day 3 & Fancy Nancy enjoyed the outside. She will not walk on a leash yet, but after carrying her out to the middle of the yard, she seemed to enjoy herself.
11/16/24-Fancy Nancy arrived last night & is just so scared. She almost fell asleep sitting up. Right now she tends to stay wherever you put her. Can’t wait to see her when feels more comfortable with her new surroundings & her true personality comes out.
11/15/24-We were told by the breeder thst Fancy Nancy is a 3 yr old mini Bernedoodle (Miniature Poodle/Bernese Mountain Dog). She came in from a commercial breeder as they were just done breeding her. She arrived safely into rescue tonight thanks her transport volunteers. Based on her coat & smaller size it looks like she got mostly the mini poodle genes. A DNA test in her new home would be fun to see hoe much bernese in her lineage. She is adorable & her sad eyes say it all. She will be available soon after her spay next Thursday November 21.
