1/14/25-Every day brings more positive advancements for Kirra! She’s got a voice! She’s play growled and joined my pack on a couple occasions with some fun barking. She will sometimes grab my slippers or chew on a nylabone for a minute or two. Kirra goes up & down the stairs now, will give little kisses, and absolutely loves to be held like a baby. It’s so cute – sometimes she will jump on my legs asking to be picked up! Kirra’s all-time favorite thing to do is sitting next to foster mom, soaking up all the pets she can get. I feel so bad but when I go to work, my husband tells me she runs around the house looking for me. This girl will follow me all over the house but when it’s time to go outside or in her crate, she makes me chase her. As she continues to learn to trust, she’s starting to get a little better with that though. She’s had some accidents in the house, but I don’t blame her as she’s just starting to learn “potty outside”. She has always kept her bedding dry and can “hold it” for 10hours or more. This girl is still nervous but has come such a long way in just over a week! She will definitely need a family that is dedicated to helping build her confidence with patience & consistency. Bonuses include a calm fur-friend, and a fenced yard so she could get her sniff on and explore unhindered by a lead. Kirra is now ready for her furever home!
1/11/25-Kirra is still pretty skittish, anxious and hand shy but getting better every day. Just the last couple days brought break-thrus with tolerating her lead, going potty outside, going down the stairs (not up yet), pawing for pets, & drinking from the group water bowl! Going in the right direction!!
1/7/25-This poor little girl is still so very timid. When she arrived, all she wanted to do was smoosh herself into a corner so no one would see her. She must have been so uncomfortable with matted fur & wood chips stuck in her curls. She was so filthy that after her bath, we realized her “socks” were white, not tan! After a long stressful day, she took a cat nap while drying by the wood stove. I’ve been giving her short spa sessions every day to cut the matts out little-by-little. She probably could use a shave down, but I don’t want to traumatize her more with a clipper. Kirra likes the comfort & safety of her crate. For the first couple of days, I had to crawl in to get her out. She is trying so hard to trust people and now will walk out on her own. That’s a big win!!! However, she doesn’t know what to do when we go outside and is fearful of a leash so will just lay down rather than do her business. I know some commercial breeder dogs prefer not to be seen eating or going potty, so I secure her on a lead and spy on her from inside. If no success outside in the frigid cold, I put her in the bathroom where I have puppy pads down. This is fine for now as relieving some anxiety is the priority. My dogs don’t bother her and she does like watching them which is a great way for her to learn how to be a dog. I named her Kirra as it is an Australian name that means “beautiful” or “to live”. She is sooooo deserving of living her best life and that is what she will get in time! Kirra will need a dedicated, patient & quiet home that will allow her to bloom at her own pace. She will be spayed tomorrow and a new update will be posted soon!
01/03/24-Kirra is pretty 18 month old female Mini aussiedoodle (miniature poodle/Australian shepherd). She came in tonight from a commercial breeder they just didn’t need her. She has the little stubby aussie tail. She is being spayed on Wednesday 1/8 & soon after she will be ready to go to her new home.
