1/20/25-At least 6 inches of snow overnight and Cricket isn’t so sure he likes outside potty today. It’s deeper than his height so I cleared an area.

1/18/25-Today is Day 14 with Cricket & he’s doing very well. He still prefers to hang out in the open crate during the day; but will occasionally follow me around the house.
He is still quite fussy about food, tends to graze his breakfast, sometimes doesn’t finish before evening meal. He is very focused if food is in a bowl and tries his best to flip it. I’m using a dinner size plate with a 1/2″ lip to derail that little trick. LOL Finally drinking occasionally during the day from ceramic water bowl (I have 2 set up in a feeder station). We have visited with my daughter’s dogs (brindle boxer, senior manchester terrier and foster medium goldendoodle) and he even chased the boxer around in yard and tried to initiate play. He sleeps through the night, no accidents in crate. Seems to travel well in car, leashed to front seat. Learning to walk on a leash. I’ve started cuddle time a night and he settles right in on my lap.
1/15/25-Pre-surgery appt today went well. No health issues. The best part of the day, he finally drank water out of a bowl! Once he’s neutered he will be ready to go to his new home.

1/13/25-Cricket has his pre-neuter checkup this Wednesday 1/15.  He still has not drank water on his own from any bowl (low metal, plastic, ceramic) since I picked him up last week. We have been using a syringe to get fluid into his mouth every day so far. He is going potty ok, only getting canned food with minimal kibble as he’ll eat around it. At his appointment this week we will what ideas the vet has to get more water into him.

1/11/25-Cricket is doing very well! He let the kids he met pet him if I’m holding him & was good.  He goes in his crate on his own, still working on coming out when requested. LOL Does not cry or whine when the door is closed and everyone leaves the room.
He is mostly house trained & has started to whine in AM to be taken outside. Once leashed, willingly comes outside to potty. His had his first walk outside on the leash today. Typical behavior (checking back, circling, crisscross) mostly in front of me. Like many breeder dogs I am still struggling with getting him to drink from a bowl. He has a good appetite & i am using canned food with gravy & some kibble to help get more liquid in him. He has no interest in treats at the moment. Working on trust – taking goodie/treat from hand or finger tip. I’m not sure if he knows his new name yet; still anxious when approached in crate. We are having “forced family time” (nicely making them engage, be petted, sit with someone, etc) & does well snuggling in my lap. He’s been secure enough to step outside crate to eat occasionally. Also he likes to watch TV! LOL

1/08/25-Today he is getting more comfortable! Yesterday I took him to my daughter’s for a neck down bath and blow out. He did ok. Each of her kids held him for a bit, so that was good too. He was “swimming” before he even got in the water! LOL We got some water into him via syringe as he was being stubborn about drinking.

1/06/25-Today is day 3 with Cricket. He is currently an anxious, nervous boy. He has not soiled his crate since arrival though & is starting to alert when he is in the crate & needs to go out. We are working on ‘come’ and ‘wait’, he does know ‘outside’ for potty. He is not very happy with his collar or leash at this time but he is learning. Like many ex breeder dogs I am struggling with getting him to drink. He is already better with eating & just started eating dry food if mixed with other goodies for the moment: boiled chicken, peas, pumpkin put on top of some dry food.

1/05/25-First day for Cricket. Still very nervous and shaky. Did eat yesterday, working on outside potty breaks.

01/03/25-Cricket is a cute little 2 year old male miniature poodle. He came in today from a commercial breeder as they just didn’t need him anymore. He arrived safely into rescue thanks to his transport & overnight volunteers. He has a pre-neuter visit on Wednesday 1/15 & neuter on Tuesday 1/28 & then he will be ready to go home after that.
