3/26/25-House training. He’s doing good with house training. We have a doggie door so he can come and go whenever. He has accidents sometimes but he’s getting better every day. We took his belly band off. If we find pee spots or catch him leg lifting we correct him and he might wear the belly band again for a little bit. This will get better as his hormones dissipate post neuter.  He loves to snuggle he doesn’t want to be out of sight. So if he gets up and leaves the living room but isn’t heading outside, it’s our time to remind him to go outside to potty.

Leash training.  He hasn’t had much leash training. When he has been on a leash we let him explore without any structure.  He walked and was not afraid of the leash. I’d still recommend doubling up with a harness and collar just in case he gets wiggly and until he gets used to walks.

Crate training.  He is very good in his crate.
Daytime crating – He isn’t food motivated and he knows being in his crate means dad, his favorite person, is leaving. He doesn’t go in by himself. All 3 of us have placed him in his crate very easily without any trouble. He doesn’t resist, put up a fight, try to squirm out, or fuss.  He’s absolutely perfect when he’s in there. No excessive barking or whining and waits patiently and quietly to be let out when we get home.

He won’t eat in a crate.  He isn’t food motivated so enticing him w treats hasn’t worked to get him in the crate on his own. He does have a favorite toy and that worked for a few times but he’s very smart and caught on to us.

Night time crating. We carry him upstairs and place him in his crate after everyone has said good night and gives him hugs and kisses. We cover his crate with a blanket.  He’s perfect and never makes a peep. He sleeps all night. Never had an accident.
In the morning we tend to wake up before him. We open his crate door and he does some super cute yoga stretches and comes out nice and calmly. He’s such a good boy!

3/21/25-Lucky Charm has been with us now for 3 weeks. He’s has taken his time to start showing us more of his personality. Lucky is looking for a calm, caring and compassionate home that will be patient with him as he gains confidence, learns to trust, and gets comfortable in his new surroundings.  Lucky’s ideal home would be as an only dog where he is spoiled with toys, attention and spot on the couch next his favorite person.  Lucky’s is a little guy, weighing only 14 pounds, and is not a high energy dog.  He doesn’t require much exercise or space at home.  Lucky would be the perfect companion for a retiree or empty nesters with visiting children.  He hasn’t met a toy he didn’t like.  Lucky has successfully emptied the entire doggie toy box all over the living room floor to ensure he has fully investigated the contents and that nothing new has come in when he was napping.  He loves to play with toys all by himself.  He tossing toys in the air, steamrolls over them, bringing them outside, bringing them back inside (maybe a little wet because it rained).  Sometimes socks or fuzzy slippers are mistaken for toys and they end up outside too.  He’s so cute and silly.
Lucky is quite the chewer which is great for his teeth.  While he has mistaken a fuzzy slipper for a toy, he is a good boy and has not chewed on anything that was not a dog toy.  We have determined that puppy bones are too soft for him and the Nylabone Gumabone Textured Dental Bone Flexi are his favorite. Since day 1, Lucky’s favorite person is his foster dad.  He’s loves being on the couch snuggled up with his dad.  He loves to follow dad around, wait for him outside the bathroom door, and sit in dads spot on the couch.  He does whimper a little bit when dad is not around.  This is why I think Lucky is going to be a very loyal companion to whoever adopts him.  Lucky does get excited to see everyone else in the house come and go.  He’s comes up and to greet with a happy wagging tail and even give tiny kisses on the hand.  This is a huge improvement for Lucky, and a clear sign that he is getting more comfortable and learning to trust humans.

3/16/25-Lucky is learning how to dog and continues to make progress every day. More signs today of being resource protective & a dog fight broke out here today.  No one was hurt but everyone is in time out. We now feel as je is settling in & showing his personality he needs to be an only dog in his new home. He will thrive being alone & allowed to be snuggly with his person. He also will by happiest to keep all his toys without sharing with other dogs.  He is now ready to go to his new home.

3/15/25-Lucky Charm seems unphazed by his surgery & his ears seem to be getting better too. It’s so much easier to put medicine in them now that they were plucked when he was under anesthesia. Housebreaking is moving along with no more belly band and no accidents at all since he came home on Tuesday, but then a little regression as we found some evidence of leg lifting. All normal as his hormones adjust. He’s also starting to spend time with the pack and sharing his favorite person and pack leader up on the couch. Sometimes he’s a little possessive over his favorite person but he’s then quickly reminded where his place is in the pack. He will definitely make a loyal companion when he finds his furever home.

3/13/25-Lucky is feeling better after his neuter & is sometimes a little growly with my dogs

He’s still adjusting though so I don’t want to label him for an only dog home yet because nothing has happened. Not fights & no bites just 1 or 2 snaps at my male pug when getting sniffed. Lucky is still very shutdown & shy. We’ve been very careful about maintaining our pack pecking order and keeping the peace.

If he gets one on one time with my husband, he has also given a little tiny growl to the other dogs.

3/11/25-Lucky came home today after his neuter. The vet reported that his ears were a mess. They kindly plucked them and started him on a new ear medicine. He will need to stay on these new meds for 10 days. He also got a Bordetella vaccine as required by this vet for overnight hospitalization, and a mani pedi. LOL He’s in great spirits, happy to be home and recovering nicely.

3/10/25-Lucky has been decompressing and showing us more and more of his charming personality over the past few days.  On Monday, we finally heard his voice.  I was working from home; he was napping in the living room with the pack so peacefully that he must’ve forgotten I was home.  He heard me open the door to the office and barked. Yay! A milestone and right on track!   He’s going to be a great guard dog for his furever family.  He’s barked at odd noises and people coming into the house but nothing out of the ordinary or excessive. Lucky has been doing great with his house training.  He loves going outside whenever he wants using the doggie door.  He’s a bit of a prankster.  He likes to steal fluffy slippers and bring them outside too.  He likes to pull blankets off the couch.  We thought maybe he was making a bed for himself on the floor with the blankets – nope, just because pulling them down and dragging them around on the floor is fun for him. Silly little chicken nugget.

Lucky is still a little shy and skittish and will require a patient family to help him continue learning to trust.  He’s only just begun to understand that he is safe and that people won’t hurt him.   He has just started to learn his name and will come when called if you’re sitting or standing still.  Actions that make him skitter away: Walking toward him, walking toward him bent over trying to catch him, loud noises, fast movements. Because Lucky is skittish, he would prefer a quieter home.  He likes kids.  But if they are rough, rowdy, wrestling, loud, he’d rather not & not good for kids under 4 for this reason.  Lucky does like to play with our pugs, but they have been rather snobbish and have not wanted to play with him (yet). Lucky does not have any separation anxiety.  He has fallen in love with my husband (the pack leader), follows him around and whimpers a little when he’s not around or available.  He will be a very loyal companion to whoever wins his trust and affection.  Lucky was neutered today and is recovering nicely.  We’re hoping that within a few days we’ll be able to remove his belly band for good. He is now ready to go to his new home!

3/5/25-Lucky Charm is a sweet and handsome boy who melted the hearts of the transport team.  Since his arrival, he’s eating ok, drinking plenty of water and learning to potty outside using the doggie door.  He loves his foster dad and clearly sees him as the pack leader.  He’s been sleeping through the night in a crate without any fuss.   He enjoys watching TV and napping on the floor.  He’d like to join our pug grumble on the couch with dad, but has been taking cues from the pack and understands that for now, his place is on the floor.   He discovered the doggy toy box and enjoys playing with fluffy and crinkle toys.  He loves to toss toys around the living room. Lucky is still a bit shy and skittish. He’s adjusting to new surroundings and learning to trust us.  We are learning more about his personality every day.

3/2/25-Introducing our newest foster, Lucky Charm! Lucky Charm had a great 1st night.
He met the pug grumble, explored outside, marked everything and drank lots of water. He discovered the toy box and pulled out several toys and bones for further investigation. He’s not quite sure what to do with them yet. He’s a typical intact boy and needs a belly band for a little while until he figures out the doggie door and how to potty outside. This morning he was not interested in breakfast. He was a good boy for his ear medicines. He has signs of a urinary tract infection so we are going to start him in some antibiotics and hopefully he’ll be feeling better soon. This little boy definitely knows how handsome he is. He’s very dapper and prances when he walks! Lucky Charm also showed off how smart he is as he’s figured out the doggie door already. He’s a smart little chicken nugget!

02/28/25-Lucky Charm is a sweet 3 year old Miniature poodle. He came in from a commercial breeder as they just didn’t need him anymore. He arrived into rescue tonight thanks to his transport & overnight volunteers. He is being treated for an ear infection & is being neutered on Monday 3/10 & will be ready to go home soon after.
