MURPHY - MINI BERNEDOODLE (MINIATURE POODLE/BERNESE MOUNTAIN DOG)
7/15/25-Murphy is doing well already adjusting here. He has one brown and one blue eye, stunning! He had started showing stress the last couple of months in his last home due to the changes in the household (now a live in caregiver, more people coming & going in the house, change in owner’s health). I haven’t seen any signs of anxiety here even when he walks by my girl on her dog bed and she snarks at him. He just looks at me and jumps on the couch. Tonight he must’ve thought he was still his puppy size when he was last here 2 years ago because he tried to sit in my lap! Lol I have a call into my groomer to get him trimmed up too.
7/12/25-Murphy is a handsome almost 3 year old mini bernedoodle (miniature poodle/Bernese Mountain Dog). He is an owner surrender that came into rescue today as his owner has health issues & could no longer care for him. He was well loved & got along great with the other dog in his house. He often went to doggie daycare to get out his energy & get socialization with other dogs & he never had any issues with the dogs or workers.
You may recognize Murphy as he was adopted just over 2 years ago from us when he was a youngster after he had extensive heart surgery. When he originally came into rescue from the puppy mill as a baby the cardiologist diagnosed him with a congenital heart condition called PDA(patent ductus arteriosus). PDA reduces the amount of blood pumped into the left side of the heart, which causes the heart to overwork and enlarges its left chamber. Without surgery he would have died before he was a year old. We raised $8,000 for his heart surgery (called Interventional transvascular PDA occlusion using Amplatz Canine Duct Occluder) which fixed his heart problem. He is on pimobendan (generic for Vetmedin) compounded 7.5mg twice a day (about $55/month) which is a heart medication that helps the heart pump more efficiently & he has been doing well on it. He will need this medication the rest of his life. He also needs yearly Echocardiograms & cardiac specialist visits to monitor his medication & treatment. His last cardiolist visit was in February this year so he is good until next February. Anyone that adopts Murphy needs to be able to take care of his medical needs including the meds & yearly cardiac specialist visits in their area.
