4/26/22-Vincent the love bug must be close to me all the time. As I am attempting to type this he has a paw on my arm to be sure I stay put. He is happy to sit next to you for hours but if you get up he is right on your tail. He is not phased by my dog. She will smell him but he simply ignores her but when it is time to go outside or come in he cannot get to the door fast enough, often running her over. He is good with all people he has met but if they don’t pay attention he will let them know by singing. I am having some construction done – he has been fine with loud noises. We have had some storms and there have not been any issues. He is happy to be in his crate both at night and during the day when needed. I have left him in a gated family room for up to four hours without any issues. Vincent does not get into mischief. He is not interested in toys. But bring out the treats and he is all about them and takes them gently most of the time. If I am also giving one to my dog he does not try to grab her treat.

I have only found one thing that appears to bother him. He does not like to have your hand come from overhead and will shy away. He does not show any aggression, he simply pulls back.

Vincent has finished his treatment for lyme. Next we go on May 4th to have a growth removed from his chest on the right side. While this growth has been tested positive as a mast cell tumor it has not grown since he has been with me. These are very common in the breed. As they get older they all get some bumps.

3/28/22-Vincent is a great dog! He has started to be a little vocal like he is trying to tell you something! Lol He does not bark though to let you know he needs to go out so it is best to get him on a regular schedule to go out potty. He eats in his crate here and goes into the crate with no fuss. This evening I gave him a dental bone at the same time I gave my dog one. He took his bone into his crate to devour. Vincent is good with my dog & I have been giving him treats with my dog and there has not been any problems. He is a laid back dog who only wants to be close to his human and will sit with you until you get up then he follows you. It took me a moment to get this update in as he had me trapped on the sofa! Lol  I am working on teaching him not to jump or put his paws on people, it is a work in progress. He knows to sit and stay as well. More updates soon!

3/21/22-Vincent arrived to his foster home yesterday thanks to all his transport volunteers! He rode great & everyone fell in love with him. He is a sweet boy. I am letting him settle in and relax. So far he just wants to be close to his human. He is eating and drinking well.  He goes into his crate easily. I am feeding him in the crate to keep him comfortable with it. My dog has shown interest in him but he just lets her sniff without any reaction. More updates as he settles in!

3/17/21-Vincent came into rescue today to his temporary foster home from a great shelter that only wanted the best for him so they contacted rescue. Here is some background info we know on him. He originally came into their shelter last May as he was found abandoned in an outdoor kennel and was severely emaciated, weighing only 32 lbs! In 1 week at the shelter he gained over 10 lbs & eventually they got him to 62 lbs.  Despite being let down by people they said he was a very loving, friendly dog.  To get him healthy they had him in a foster home & they said has been fine with the other dogs in the household but they felt he would do best in a home with dogs who are close to his size or larger.  He was very interested in the smaller dogs and while this may have just been genuine curiosity he seemed to be hyperfocused on them(for this reason we say no to cats too).

They didn’t know his age so they guessed him around 10 at that time, but it’s common shelters & some vets get boxer ages wrong. Our vet said he’s more like 9 & he definitely acts super spry & healthy! Being an older boxer he is beginning to get cataracts and doesn’t see well in dim light but he can see and navigate well. He also loves car rides!

He was adopted at the shelter several months ago after he recovered from being emaciated. Adopters recently had a baby and the wife has really bad postpartum depression. The husband works a lot too & since the wife is really struggling they returned Vincent to the shelter. The man was crying, absolutely devastated to return him but felt he did not have a choice.

He tested a slight Lyme positive when the shelter did his heartworm 4dx test. He will just be on antibiotics for 30 days to treat that.
