4/26/22-I must say, I’m surprised Miss Mattie is still with me, she is the calmest, most laid back boxer girl I’ve met in a very long time.  She has no anxieties at all, she’s fine being separated from me by baby gates and when outside she is happy as a clam just being able to chase squirrels and chipmunks, lounge in the sun on the deck, and she knows she doesn’t melt during a spring rain shower.  That is what I love best about her.  She is just so relaxed, she doesn’t need to be glued to me like many of our foster dogs.  When she comes in to spend one on one time with me, she loves hugs and kisses, being talked to, then she’ll just go pick out a dog bed and take a nap.  She’s an easy dog to share your life, and a perfect companion who can’t wait to meet you.

4/18/22-Mattie is being such a good house guest, since her arrival, she has had no house accidents except the very first day.  She loves spending time outside, checking out the yard, the activity next door as they have a new puppy, and sunbathing on the deck.  She’s so undemanding, and truly a pleasure to have around.  She does like to be talked too and to socialize with me, and even gives tiny little kisses after just a few days here.  Sudden loud noises makes her stop and look around, but she is not overly skittish for a former mill mama.  She is ready to start her new life and I think she’ll do very well as an only dog.  She’s not dog aggressive at all, but she does tend to be a dominant girl and my bulldog girl will have non of that.
Walking on a leash has improved slightly, but it will take time and patience and practice.  I’m not able to walk her as much as I’d like, but she is fine will everything around her.  However if a squirrel runs across the road, or a cat, she’d like to chase, a quick correction stops that instantly.  Like I said, she’s a good girl.
I did give her a bath this weekend, and although I did have to pick her up and put her in the tub for a shower, she was so good, and stood still while I suds her up with goat soap and a nice warm rinsing shower.  I could not have more more pleased with her.
Does she sound like a perfect dog for you….

4/11/22-Miss Mattie, retired puppy mill mama, arrived here this weekend thanks to her transport friends. She’s a beautiful Brindle girl, with white markings and silky smooth coat, and she’s starting a whole new life. Everything is new, going in cars, walking on leash and meeting new people and she has handled it all with grace. So please check back soon as we get to know her better.
4/13/22-We have gotten to know Miss Mattie these last few days, and she is just the sweetest girl, who is fairly outgoing considering she was raised in a puppy mill.  She appears shy at first and will approach with some caution, but she will approach and seek out attention, and seems really happy to get lots of pats and hugs.  She was shaking her head the first 12 hours after her arrival, so I gave her ears a good cleaning and started some drops in her ears, and she is a doll to do that with.
She has been out and about in the house, she has met my 3 dogs, and is okay with the male dogs, but not happy being anywhere around my female.  From my perspective, I would say Mattie would rather be an only dog.  She greets my boys thru the baby gates and gives nubby wags and wiggles, but she is not comfortable when that gate opens, she on guard and cautious when they enter her immediate space, so we are limiting introductions.
Walking on a leash is slow, she will walk, but it’s all very new to her.  She’s not a puller, but will walk slightly behind you….this will definitely improve with work, but she his fine seeing people or other dogs walking,  she’s just not interested in stopping to visit, again, it’s a work in progress.
Potty training is going very well too. She had a couple accidents her first day, however she hasn’t had any since then.  Both a routine as well as a stable household will be what you’ll need to get potty time down pat.
I don’t think she will be good with cats either.  She has exhibited a really strong prey drive with other smaller wild animals, and she is so close to capturing the local squirrels, she will actually stop mid potty to chase after one.
But if you are looking for a gentle, sweet girl, she’ll fit that bill and give you lots of love and enjoyment for years to come.  She’s a keeper and you’ll love having her in your life.
4/6/22-Mattie arrived at her temporary foster home today. She was a breeder at a puppy mill that no longer had any use for her. More updates soon from her foster home.
