11/01/25-Rocky is a spirited 2 yr old boxer pup. He definitely needs someone to take him for long walks or other ways of allowing him to get his energy out. When he has that opportunity, he settles in nicely and a cuddle bug. Otherwise, he runs up and down the stairs, playing with toys – in general a little unsettled.
Outside, he is still timid with new places and things. He has an inquisitive attitude and seems to enjoy being outside even though it is still new to him. On leash, he still needs to learn to walk with you (by your side) rather than leading the way. I believe that he is trainable and the “pulling” is not excessive- more of a lack of awareness that he shouldn’t be ahead of you. He continues to do well in the crate with no accidents. He does fine in the car, but has not learned how fun car rides can be yet. He settles into a spot and waits to see what is going to happen next. He is a fun, energetic boy, that loves hugs but will need some human guidance but will certainly be a loving and loyal family member!
10/28/25-Unfortunately due to a mix up at the vet Rocky was not able to be neutered today. We had to reschedule his surgery for next Tuesday 11/4. After his neuter he will ready to be matched to his new home!
10/26/25-Rocky is doing great & he loves to play with the other dog in the house. One thing to note, right know when walking on a leash & we come across another dog, Rocky becomes very animated. He pulls and jumps as well as barks. His bark is high pitched and loud & can look intimidating. Especially with the way he barks, people will look and think that he is an aggressive dog but he definitely is not. Some of it is likely because he’s a young unaltered male boxer, which means lots of testosterone. Those hormones will dissipate some after his neuter. However, he will need someone who is patient and can train him on how to act right around strange dogs. When I walk him with my dog Sherman, Rocky becomes a little snippy towards Sherman when he gets excited. Sherman has learned this behavior and just stays away from him. If I were looking for a dog, it wouldn’t concern me, but if someone is unfamiliar with dogs or not willing to take Rocky to training they might feel overwhelmed. I think he is easily trainable, but it will take time. I don’t think it’s a habit at this point because he hasn’t really been around lots of other strange dogs until now. Rocky was raised in the country originally without a lot of strange neighborhood dogs. It’s just about giving him the correct thing to do.
10/25/25-Rocky has been with us for 2 weeks now and he has fully come out of his shell. He loves to snuggle and is the best foot warmer. In typical boxer fashion, he never misses an opportunity to steal your body heat by sitting next or maybe even on top of you. He is happy to play with his toys by himself but he loves a good game of tug of war or keep away. His favorite toy is the spiky ball inside a stuffy. He is crate trained. He sleeps in the crate without any issues. He is also in the crate when we are gone. He is very chill about it. He never fusses or whines. He calmly waits for us to open the door – then he bounds out the door ready for the day’s adventure. This week he did his first infamous boxer head turn when he heard a new noise. He also did his first “corncob” nibble when we were playing this week. If you don’t know, it’s when gently nibbles on something that you are holding or the cuff of your sweatshirt. He has joined the neighborhood watch, perched in the front window overlooking the street so he can keep an eye of other people walking their dogs, delivery trucks or menacing squirrels that might be up to no good. Be warned: he is a significant drooler. Lol He will be neutered on Tuesday. Hopefully, it will be a quick and easy recovery then he will ready to go to his forever home. Overall, he is a typical 2 year old boxer that is full of energy and love.
10/16/25-Rocky is settling in after being with us for a couple of days. He has found the toy box and is on a mission to find his very favorite. We are working on walking in a straight line when outside going for a walk but when there are so many new and interesting things to smell, who can blame him.
10/12/25-Rocky has arrived to his foster home and is doing fine. My dog Sherman came out to meet him. Rocky did one little attempt to show he’s in charge, but my dog didn’t react, so Rocky moved on. Otherwise, so far so good. He did OK walking on the leash walking around the block, but definitely isn’t used to long walks. He did a really nice sit at the door waiting to be let in without being prompted. Here’s a picture of him with my 15-year-old son giving Rocky scratches which he seems to love.
10/12/25-Rocky is a sweet 2 year old boxer owner surrender that came in with Blanca. They arrived today thanks to their transport volunteers. Their owner originally got them when he lived in the south & recently had to move back to New York City to a small apartment. Now with no space or time for them anymore, along with financial reasons, he made the very difficult decision to surrender them to find new homes. We are working on getting a neuter date setup as soon as possible. Once we get to know him better & he is neutered Rocky will be ready for his new home
