6/10/2022 – A lot of exciting things have been happening around here and my foster mom says I have to take some time out to tell you, how else am I going to find my forever home?

A few weeks ago, mom’s friend visited and she brought one of her dogs with her, he’s a boxer just like one of my foster brothers. He’s having some medical issues so he really didn’t run and play but I did get to lay next to him. I was cautious in the beginning because I wasn’t sure if he would like me or not. I don’t like change too much right now and when it came time to eat, I was ok with it. After all, seeing another mouth to feed, I have to make sure there’s enough for me! It’s so different eating in a home than where I came from….I no longer have to worry about that!

Last week, we had another foster come to stay with us. He’s very energetic, he’s another former mill dog and we have been getting along well. I’m still very skittish and need to be coaxed into my crate. When it’s time to open the crate, watch out, I come barreling out and love to go outside right away. My crate has been dry all this time, no more accidents for me!

For some reason, I’m still not too sure of my foster mom, as much as I see my foster brothers go up to her and play with her, I keep my distance and run away from her in the yard. I do know when it’s time to come inside, because she says, “Dove, let’s go inside” and as she’s walking towards me, I run right past her.

I really need a home that is going to be patient with me. As much as I’m skittish, I do love it when my foster mom picks me up and puts me in her lap to watch TV. I actually go into a deep sleep while she’s rubbing my back and actually start snoring. Foster mom says, it’s not polite for a lady to snore but I haven’t had such good sleep where I came from, I can’t help it.

I get along great with other dogs and have my doubts about humans, but I’m working on that, so what’s not to love about me. I’ll make a great companion once I know I’m safe and secure in my new permanent home!

5/10/2022 – I have to say that I’m beginning to enjoy the new life I have found living outside of the puppy mill. I’m still finding some things difficult to adjust to but am trying my best to overcome my apprehension. Foster mom says that I’ve come a long way in the 3 ½ weeks I’m with her. I know my name and I will listen to her when she calls me and I start coming to her but then I change my mind and scoot away. That doesn’t stop her from coming to get me. She loves to pick me up and give me kisses. At night, my foster brothers and her get on the couch to settle. I actually am picked up and placed in her lap and I sit there and get lots of attention. The first time she put me there, she was upset because every time she rubbed my back, I flinched. You see being a mill momma, you’re not used to getting such love and attention especially from humans.

I love being outside in the yard and hop, yes I hop all over the yard. Foster mom thinks I may have a bunny in me but I don’t, I’m a full-fledged bulldog. I just hop all over because I’ve never been on grass, smelt the fresh air or have had the sunshine in my face. I’m really getting good at being housebroken and I get so much praise when my crate is dry in the morning. Ah mornings, once I come out of my crate, I go outside and then when we come inside, I get breakfast! Foster mom praises me again because I have no food aggression. Sometimes, my foster brothers come to see what I’m eating and I just move over to share. Foster mom is on top of them because she wants me to eat all my breakfast and my dinner too.

I’m waiting for what is called my forever home, I know it will be a change again for me but as long as my new family is patient, we will have a long lasting bond that no one will ever break!

Ok, I have to go outside again to enjoy the sunshine, I’ll write again soon!

4/21/2022 – What a Lovey Dovey Miss Dove is! She’s been in our home for a few days and is still very skittish of me. As much as she finds comfort in her crate, she is only in it when I’m not home or to go nite nite. She has spent her first 4 years in a crate, she has her freedom now. She looks to my boys for guidance on certain things but has not started to play or lay by them, she is happy being in her own space for now. She is very observant of what is going on around her.

Currently, Dove needs eye ointment for an irritation and ear drops for an ear infection. She has come to realize that with them she’s feeling better so she just gives in and lets me do my thing. She never had her wrinkles cleaned until she left the mill and is good with the cleaning as well.  Her crate has been dry overnight with only a few accidents in the house. Again, this is all new to a mill momma, give her time and she’ll have no issues in the house. Patience is the best thing right now for Dove!

More to come as Dove blossoms into the free spirit she was meant to be!

4/16/2022 – There are so many people that need to be thanked for transporting Dove to her foster home after she spent overnight in her temporary foster home where she was treated like royalty especially with her spa treatment. Here goes – Jill, Kandy, Loretta, Martha, Lisa, Clare, Tiffany, Liz, Erica and Michele. Yes, you counted right there were 10 stops that were made and after I met Michele, Dove had another hour to drive. She was a trooper through it all. That transport took over 11 hours and it is not easy for the transporters or the dog. The dog needs time to chill and destress to get their bearings together.

When she arrived at her foster home, she explored the back yard and stretched her legs. Surprisingly for a mill momma that has been in a crate for her entire life for breeding only, she ventured out into the grass without any issues. After a while it was time to meet her foster doggie brothers. My boys are great meeting the new foster and they understand if they want their space they let them have it.

We all went into the house and it was dinner time. Dove ate in her crate because that’s what she was used to…..magic word, was! The next day, she ate outside her crate in her new station. She was very excited that it had a large bowl of water and she could drink anytime she wanted.

Right now, Dove is getting used to being in a home and the new freedom she has. Keep watching for updates on this sweet mama!
