1/18:/26-Esther finally had the last of her stitches removed and is doing great. We are still using the cone because she has a pretty big scar that is scabbed over and we don’t want her to open it up again. I’ll continue to apply the vetericyn gel the vet gave us and send them periodic photos to check on the progress, but barring any complications she should be done with her vet visits. We’ve started back up on the crate training and shes adjusting well. She slept most of the night last night, but started whining when she heard me stirring around 7 am. I’d still call that a success after a few weeks of sleeping in my bed. She seems to have some more energy now and is trying to figure out how to play with her toys and gets super bouncy and excited to see us in the morning and anytime we have to leave her for a bit. Esther has also started to whine and walk towards the door when she has to go to the bathroom, so the potty training is going great! This perfect girl is such a joy! Hopefully we in a couple of days she will be ready to go to her new home.
1/16/26-Esther went back to the vet today & had her last stitch was removed. They want her to keep the cone on for a little longer because the suture area is still healing and scabbed over. They said there is good tension so they don’t anticipate further issues, but you just never know. I’m going to keep applying the ointment the next few days & send them another photo on Monday. She should be ready to go home after Monday if all goes well this weekend.
1/12/26-Esther is doing well, but we’re still having some issues with her incision healing where they removed a cyst. She still has one stitch and is on an ointment that will help it to heal. We go back to the vet Friday for another check in to see if we can get this girl a forever home. She is a little mischievous so I am going to begin crating her again when I leave, even though her wound isn’t completely healed, for her own safety. I left her gated in the kitchen yesterday when I left for a few hours and she broke through the gate. There were no accidents in the house (yay!), but she did knock some stuff off of tables. Esther is still the sweetest girl and she adores my children. Her future family will be so loved.
1/09/25-Esther went to vet today & one stitch had to stay in because its not completely closed. We have to go back in a week to get that stitch removed & vet gave me ointment to apply to the scar. We’re really going to miss Esther when it’s time for her to go to her forever home but we know there is a great home out there for her. She just loves me & the kids (both 5 yr olds now) so she would be a good family dog too. Esther will be ready to go home soon!
1/07/26-I don’t think a pup has ever looked cuter in the cone of shame. She gets all the snuggles & we just love her & so will her new family. Esther goes Friday to get her stitches out, then we can get her off to her new home!
12/30/25-Esther is home and resting after her spay and cyst/tumor removal. We got the best possible news from her appointment & xrays with no other signs of cancer. The cyst on her ribs and the mammary tumor were all removed without issue. Poor girl has been through the ringer, but she’ll be feeling much better soon. I don’t know how anyone can put these poor babies through so much, but now she can know a real life of love with her future family. This sweet girl is now ready for her new home!
12/23/25-Esther had her pre-spay appointment today & did great. She has one growth that is a cyst that they want to remove because of the size and worried about it continuing to grow and bursting. The mammary chain masses they do believe is cancer so they will just remove that during spay. They don’t believe it has spread but they will do x-rays before her spay to be sure it has not. She has small bumps all over that appear to be scars that are clearing up with the antibiotic and should all fall off in time. Also scars on both corneas, but it’s not effecting her eyesight or causing other issues. Other than these things, they have no concerns. We will have more updates on her health after her spay next week. Esther has loved everyone she’s met so far, big and small. Unfortunately, we have not made any progress with my cats, so at this point I don’t think I’d recommend a house with cats. She still loves lounging on the couch the most and gets all the pets and cuddles she can. Esther is one of the sweetest girls I’ve ever met.
12/21/25-Couch potato alert! Here is what I have learned about Esther! She LOVES lounging on the couch and made herself comfortable right away. We have only had one accident in the house, when I was getting ready and didn’t see her potty queues. Other than that, she is doing great going outside to go to the bathroom. She doesn’t go to the door yet, so I am taking her out every few hours and giving her lots of praise for doing her business outside. You can also read her body language if she starts pacing and gets a little antsy. We went for a short walk yesterday and she did amazing on the leash. She did not pull at all and walked right beside me the entire time.
She sleeps amazing in her crate all night long. She whines for maybe 5 minutes, then I don’t hear a peep until I get up for the day. She also does great in the crate during the day when I have to leave the house. Her first interaction with my cats wasn’t the best, so I’m taking that slow in hopes we can make some improvement and I will give updates once I know more. We’ll have more updates this week after she interacts with my 4 year old kids and has her first vet visit. So far she is a perfect house guest, but she can’t wait to find her forever home.
12/19/25-Esther is a sweet 6 year old female boxer that came in today from a commercial breeder as they just didn’t need her anymore. She arrived safely into rescue tonight thanks to her transport volunteers. Esther has already made a wonderful first impression. As soon as we got home she did all of her potty business outside. We came inside and she sniffed all corners of my house and checked out her crate. She even gave me hugs when she came out of her crate. You can tell this girl was put through the ringer, but she is still a lover. Her intake vet visit found she has a bunch of lumps & bumps to get further looked at, ears need cleaned & treated & may need her teeth cleaned by her new owner after adopted. They sent her with ear cleaner & medication & antibiotics. Esther will have her pre-spay appointment next Tuesday 12/23 by our other vet and her spay on the following Tuesday 12/30. I can’t wait to see her blossom into the dog she deserves to be!
