6/27/22-Laina has had a great first week and a half in her foster home. She LOVES everyone she meets! Sometimes maybe a little too much as we are still working on not jumping for attention. She is super treat motivated so with treats in hand we are working on sitting nicely for attention. Such a refreshing change to have a mill dog that isn’t terrified of people!
Not a single accident in the house and crate is always clean. She is quiet in the crate too so no worries there. Laina is a typical bulldog playing in spurts and power napping in between. She really is an easy dog to have around. She is much less nervous now with the other dogs. I would guess the poor girl hasn’t had may positive experiences with other dogs. She seems to have learned that the other dogs are pretty cool friends. We socialize her with the other dogs in smaller increments just to make sure she doesn’t get nervous or overwhelmed. She loves going for walks and gets excited when I get out the leash and harness but being a typical bulldog she isn’t meant for endurance especially in warm weather.
Laina is such a happy, loving girl. All she needs is her forever family to make her life complete.

6/19/22-Laina arrived on Friday after spending the first year of her life in a puppy mill. She was one of the lucky ones being freed after a year instead of many years and multiple litters. It is not often the mill dogs come with a name and we generally change it if they do because they don’t know it… a new name with a fresh start.

Although Laina doesn’t know her name we aren’t changing it. Her name means “path” or “roadway”. In a variety of cultures it is believed that life is a quest and everyone has a special map to follow. Laina’s path led her to SCBR with the help of our rescue partner Puppy Mill Rescue she hit the roadway and made her way from Ohio to New York. Her name is very fitting.

Laina absolutely LOVES people. This little bulldog girl was put on this earth to love and be loved. She is 1 year old, spay, heartworm negative and up to date on vaccines. She has microphthalmia in her right eye. That eye is smaller than normal due to a vitamin A deficiency in utero. Her vision seems good in that eye and no treatment is needed. Her left is is unaffected. It kind of looks like she’s winking with one eye a bit smaller.

So far I’m pretty impressed by how friendly and outgoing Laina is. She loves attention, plays with toys, explores the yard etc which is unusual for a dog right out of a puppy mill. She is quiet in her crate and so far hasn’t had any accidents in the crate or house. Laina is very unsure of the other dogs right now. For this reason we think she will be best as an only pet. I don’t see any reason she can’t be adopted to a house with older “sturdy” children. She does put her paws on us/jump up for attention. We are working on correcting this but I don’t want to have her accidentally knock down a small child. More updates coming as we get to know her better!
