8/7/22-The Fabulous Finn is doing well at his foster home! He now greets visitors like long lost besties which is such a huge change from when he came into rescue. To see him happily greet people with his tail wagging is the best!

Finn is winning people over like you would not believe! My friend/neighbor who is a lab person adores him! She says he has the cutest face and eyes. My sister who is a dachshund person said “Wow, I really like this dog!” It seems to me that Finn just works his magic and seconds after meeting him everyone loves him!

I took Finn for a ride the other day. He was great in the car. I brought a filled marrow bone and he laid down and chewed away the entire trip. He met some new people and much to my surprise was unfazed by a motorized wheelchair. Good boy Finn!

Finn has a really great temperament. Even when he was terrified of everything and everyone he’s been nothing but sweet…. Well besides the puppy mouthing/nipping he does on occasion. It’s not very often, just when he gets really excited. We are working on that.

Finn definitely still needs a fenced yard. Another dog would be great but now it’s not a necessity. He continues to be great with my dogs but is also independent so he can be an only dog. He is housebroken and crate trained. Older kids are ok too!
As much as I love Finn it’s time for him to make his final move to his forever home.

7/18/22-Time for an update! What a great 1 1/2 weeks Finn has had here! He is turning into a happy, well adjusted puppy right in front of my eyes! He is very smart and has learned our routine quickly. He is not super high energy but he has a few random spurts of puppy zoomies. For the most part he is very content playing with the other dogs or chewing on a toy.

The best news overall is that he isn’t terrified of humans anymore. We can pet him without him running away or any fear. This took about a week but now he actually comes to us looking for pets! Finn LOVES food which is making him an easy dog to train and gain his trust.
Now that Finn has settled in I do think he will do well with dog savvy kids 8+. He should have an easier time transitioning into his forever home then he did transitioning from the puppy mill to his foster home but just in case it will be important to have kids old enough to understand just to give him some time/space so he can get settled into his new surroundings.
Finn just is an absolute pleasure to foster. I keep telling everyone I never knew I could love a “doodle” this much! Those who know me will tell you I’m a Boxer and Bulldog girl but Finn is just awesome. He has a great temperament and will definitely make a great addition to your family.

7/10/22- Finnegan (Finn) arrived at his foster home Friday evening. He is a 16 week old F1B Bernedoodle (75% Standard Poodle 25% Bernese Mountain Dog). Finn came to us from a puppy mill where he got too “old” to sell. Finn is definitely a good looking boy with his curly black coat. If you look at the pictures a single pink petunia got stuck in his fur this morning. He ran around the yard playing with it there for a half hour before it finally fell out. It was so cute!

Finn is very afraid of this great big world he is suddenly in but is coming around slowly. He absolutely LOVES the other dogs in his foster home. People on the other hand scare him. It’s so heartbreaking to see a dog of his age not know how to accept human attention. While he doesn’t want us to pet him he definitely wants us nearby and whines if he doesn’t know where we are. Finn is very food motivated so hopefully with the help of dog treats, some chicken and turkey we can convince him humans are great! He no longer hides in one spot in the yard he explores and runs/plays so he has made great strides already.

Finn is really smart. He’s figured out a lot of our routine already. He comes out of his crate on his own now (he used to cower/hide in the back). He goes in/out of the house on his own now too! He was too scared to do that at first. He is excited at feeding time, helps himself to toys to keep himself occupied. So far no accidents in the house either! I hope he keeps that up!

Finn is a definite flight risk at this point so a fenced yard is a must. He panics with a leash and collar. We have been letting him drag a leash to get used to it without any tension on his neck but it is going to take some time. I may try him on a harness once he’s a little more comfortable and see if that is any better. Finn is going to take some work and patience to socialize him but he will be well worth the effort. Finn’s ideal home at this point will have a fenced yard and another confident dog. Due to his skittishness he will only be placed with teens and up.

More updates coming as we get to know him better.
