7/11/26-Abel is continuing to do great. He’s settled into our household routines nicely – in fact, he’s usually the first one to remind us if we’re a little slow getting to our after-dinner walk! Lol We’ve learned that he loves to play with the hose when we’re watering the garden and his favorite type of toy is any kind of ball.  Abel continues to be a huge attention hog. I think he’s introduced himself to everyone in the neighborhood at this point! He absolutely loves everyone he meets. We’ll be starting him at the dog park soon to see how he does with groups of dogs. Abel is going to be a wonderful companion to whatever family ends up with him!

6/22/26-Everyone, meet Abel! This sweet, sweet boy came to us a week ago and is doing great! Fair warning, Mr. Abel is 100% Boxer – a 50/50 mix of snuggle monster and attention hog! From what we understand Abel comes from a home where he was spoiled rotten so, if he isn’t getting the amount of attention he thinks he deserves, he will let you know! lol

Abel has loved every human he has been introduced to, especially the ladies. It’s likely he will be a total mamma’s boy in his forever home. He also gets along great with his foster Boxer sisters, although there is a certain amount of “attention jealousy” if you spend too long on one dog, and not the others! Abel is also interested in our two kitties, but not aggressive (he wants to play with our boy, but the boy isn’t sure what to think!). We’ve introduced him to other dogs, both large and small, and he’s done great.  One important thing – as his owner warned us, Abel currently does not have great recall. His forever family will have to work on that. And, like most Boxers, Abel is smart but stubborn. Please note, we are a “pets are allowed on the furniture” house, so that is what he will be comfortable with in the future.  He got a clean bill of health on Thursday when hd saw the vet & is now ready for his new home.

6/14/26-Abel is at his foster home now thanks to his transport volunteer and he is settling in just fine! He has met their two female dogs and everything went well. He is already neutered & is going to the vet this Thursday 6/18 to get his shots updated & heartworm/lyme test. Once we get to know him a little better Abel will be ready to go to his new home.

6/13/26-Abel is a sweet, just turned 8 year old boxer local owner surrender coming into rescue tomorrow.  Sadly his owner’s wife passed away last year.  His owner is elderly & can no longer take care of Abel & their other dog well.  He recently hurt himself & is living in an RV at a campground ground as he had to give up the house too. He says Abel is a sweet dog but he was very spoiled until his wife passed away.  Abel seems to be missing the 24/7 attention & has been whining a lot.  He said Abel still has some puppy energy and no known health issues, not even arthritis! Also told us he walks well on leash and has been tethered while staying at the campground. He has never been crated but has not been destructive in the house. He currently lives with a female dog & has been around cats and children of all ages & good with all. He sleeps in bed with his owner & said he does need leashed though when not in a fenced area as he will run & not come back.
