7/25/26-This naughty (but uber smart) boy…. He is soooo tall that his nose reaches the counter, which makes it ez for him to pop up for some counter surfing. Welllll, we left the house for 30 minutes last night and left him out of his crate for a short trial. When we came home, we saw that he knocked several items off the kitchen counter, including a bottle of glucosamine treats. He very carefully screwed the lid off (without leaving any bite marks) and proceeded to eat ~20-30 chews. After some quick research and a call to our vet about overdose concern, we quickly brought him in for care as extra precaution. $360 later, Thor is just fine! He did snap at the vet tech who came over the top of him, no bite though. But also, my husband, me and Thor were all squished into a corner when the tech was approaching so I am sure he was overwhelmed and scared. He is extremely bonded to us, so in order to instill eye drops, the tech did put a soft muzzle on Thor.  What we learned the hard way is that he cannot be trusted outside of the crate yet OR counters must be clear of all potential yummies (even if they are sealed!).  The good news is that we do not believe he needs hydrolyzed food anymore! After trialing different fruits, kibble & treats without any tummy upset, I’m successfully weaning him off the special kibble. It seems that an inexpensive mini banana a day is keeping him regular. YAY!  He loves cooked sweet potato slices for a special treat too. He will eat almost anything (except the hoard of greenbeans & zucchini from our garden of course) lol!  He probably does have a little separation anxiety & will absolutely destroy a wire crate in a hot minute. He would do best with someone who is home more often than not or who will invest in a heavy duty crate until he can be trusted outside of the crate. These are just some examples of why adopting from a foster-based rescue like SCBR is so beneficial – our assessments & trials provide vital knowledge to the potential adopter and help make perfect matches! Now, WHO will be the lucky one to will get this gem!? 

7/17/26-Thor is doing absolutely amazing! All of his poops are normal now and he is on a 50/50 mix of hydrolyzed and natural balance kibble 2 times per day. After trialing different kibble toppers we found the best thing for him is simply a half banana a day! He loves almost all fruits & veggies so much especially sweet potatoes – which also gives him that extra bump of fiber. He has filled out nicely and is at the perfect weight. This boy is a gentle giant and also a giant snuggler. He is most content laying with you on the couch or floor, and will follow you wherever you go if you get up. During the day he is in a crate and he doesn’t love it, we have come home to his bed chewed on occasion and some piddling but he does not consistently do this. We think he just wants to be with us and maybe has a little anxiety when we leave, does it out of spite. He otherwise holds his bladder for 9 hours overnight so we know it is not a physical or medical issue, and he has never had an accident in the house.  For this reason he would do better with someone who is home a little more often. Thor sleeps in his own dog bed on the floor overnight and does not bother us. He is my new alarm clock in the morning but I don’t mind when he nuzzles his face into mine to wake me.Thor has been playing more and loves chasing a tennis or softball. He has a couple of chew toys he independently keeps himself busy with too. Thor has been demonstrating the boxer zoomies more too but it looks more like a horse gallop because he is so long and lanky! It makes us laugh every time and warms our heart to see him so happy and healthy! I just can’t tell you how fantastic this boy is! After 30+ fosters, this one really has our hearts.  
 
7/13/26-Unfortunately Thor is already back to find another home after a couple days in his new home.  When he was introduced to his new home’s elderly Mother he snapped at her & mouthed her hand.  She visits frequently & is their sole caregiver for their animals when they work or on vacation. They said knowing the first encounter was rough, their mother would be hesitant to help out so they decided to bring him back. The new home said Thor was instantly bonded to the husband & following him around, which is true as he loves men according to his foster home. The couple also said Thor is AMAZING & deserves the best.  They were very sad & feel absolutely terrible as they really wanted it to work. The family felt so sorry it didn’t work out that they donated their adoption fee they paid. The asked for it to cover his care in rescue & also toward his adoption fee for his new home. 
 
7/10/26-Thor was adopted!

7/3/26-We really can’t get enough of this boy, and it’s mutual! He is goofy and enjoys getting our boxer boy running outside, then snuggles head-to-head with him inside. He absolutely looooves foster mom & dad and wants to be touching or in eyesight of us constantly. Except at bedtime – Thor has developed a nice little routine where he visits us to say g’night once we settle into bed, and then he goes out to the living room to sleep, either on the dog bed or couch. This past week we were on vaca so we all have been sleeping in a little later than normal. Once he hears us stirring, he will come visit us at the bedside – cobbing & sniffing, licking our faces or thumping his big paw on the mattress (looking for luvins and FOOD of course lol). When this boy arrived to the shelter, he was emaciated at only 54 lbs, had red, irritated paws and calluses on his hips & elbows. After about 2 weeks in our care and several food trials, he is now a healthy 66 lbs and gaining! His skin & fur has softened, and his spine is not as protruding. We are still trying to figure out what food he is sensitive/allergic to, which is probably why he was dumped by his owners. He does seem to have been very loved though, knows how to sit & give paws and is potty trained. Thor is doing well on prescription kibble and we are still feeding him 3X/day. His stools are more consistently formed (though not completely solid), and we are slowly introducing different proteins to rule in/out other options. Today’s supplement is cottage cheese!! He does love bananas, melon, peaches & oranges. One bad habit we are trying to break him of is counter surfing – poor boy is constantly hungry due to insufficient protein. He really enjoyed my lemon orzo salad the other day….grrrrr  Thor is beyond loving and gives the best hugs – whoever is matched with him will surely hit the lottery!

7/2/26-Thor is AMAZING in every way! Master snuggler, loves doggos, potty-trained, fully vetted and handsome as heck! He’s been a great guest.  I am going to start adding certain things back into the hydrolyzed kibble to see how it affects his bowel movements. I am hopeful I will find something else to add in, whether it be dairy or a different type of protein as this kibble is only 20% and I don’t like that for him. He us constantly hungry because he’s not absorbing enough. His poops are semi formed about 90% of the time. He may need to be on prescription diet which is expensive and need to make sure his new home will be able to afford it.  Once we get his tummy a little more under control he will be ready for his new home.  

6/29/26-I am feeling Sooooo much better on my hydrolyzed kibble (Proplan HA salmon) and foster mom says poops are looking good! Is that a thing??!! I heard that food can be a little expensive but mom says I am worth every penny! Would probably be good for my new family to do a doggie sensitivity test for foods you can get online (5 Strands brand is good one) to see what i am having issues with to find a more reasonable food that will work.    I don’t have the itchies anymore either, I think the bumps on my skin were from medicine the doctor gave me last week. I have put some pounds on and I am romping with my boxer bro who I really respect and look up to. I am loving the soft bedding and am being a good boy sleeping outside my crate at night. I absolutely love foster mom and dad and i hear “Velcro boy” a lot for some reason. I heard this Julie lady is going to send me the most perfect forever home possible but I can wait right here until then 🐾🍀

6/27/26-We have had Thor for about 10 days now and he is such a special boy! The one thing we have been battling from day 1 (& also during the week he was in the shelter) is liquid diarrhea. We have not come home to accidents though, at least he can still hold it for 8-9 hours when needed.  Parasites have been ruled out. He’s got great energy, is happy & sweet as they come, and I do not hear tummy gurgling so I don’t suspect infection (however he was on an antibiotic just in case, and to rule that out). I added some binders and probiotics to his kibble but still not showing consistent change. Last night I gave him a special limited ingredient kibble but the result was hives!! I am now confident that he has a food allergy which is causing inability to absorb protein and his state of emaciation. today he is solely on hydrolyzed kibble.  Wish this boy luck!!!! We need to get him over this tummy trouble some before he will be ready for his new home.
 

6/17/26-Thor is a beautiful & sweet about 2 year old stray boxer to a great shelter we work with that no one claimed. He came into rescue today thanks to his transport volunteer. This poor boy is so skinny & needs to gain about 10-15 lbs. He is definitely a man’s man! Loves following my husband around the yard. He is being neutered on Tuesday 6/23 & once we get to know him & his needs a little better he will be ready for his new home. This boy won’t be here long!
