10/18/26-Dottie is doing great recovering from her spay on October 14th.  She was down and out for the first day, but she is right back to herself now and feeling great. Dottie really loves her crate.  She goes in very well (with treats).  We give her free access to her crate at all times and she definitely seems to feel right at home in there.  She even snuggles in there for a nap on her own. She seems like she is going to be very easy to train.  She is learning her name.  She is highly motivated to please humans and she is food motivated as well.  It took her all of 10 minutes to learn to sit!   Such a smart girl! Overall Dottie is incredibly well behaved.  She is quiet just about all of the time except for a few quiet whimpers when we go outside and she is inside.  Would be a great apartment or condo dog! And she is so excited when we return, even if it has only been 1 minute that we were gone.  She has found a few things that she’s not supposed to have once or twice (such as a sock), but she does great when we take it away and redirect her to the dog toy bin.  She loves nylabones and chews them every day.  She’s great about sharing them with our resident dogs with no issues.  She has shown no signs of food guarding at all.  She’s gotten really good about not jumping up for attention.  If she forgets, we tell her “off” and she gets down and waits politely for us to pet her.  She also does well in the car.  We have had her in the car in a crate and without a crate and she has been calm either way.   Dottie is so friendly with everybody… human and furry.  Her little tail wags nonstop all day long.  She absolutely loves attention.  She will sit with you as long as you pet her, and she continues to especially love having her neck and chin scratched.   She is getting better and better every week with house training.  She has about 1-2 accidents in the house per week.  But she is getting much better about doing her business every time we take her outside which is great progress.   She is all ready to be adopted!

10/5/26-Dottie just loves her foster doggie sister, Roxanne. She continues to do really great in our home. She is fantastic on a leash, no pulling and she loves going on walks! She’s a very affectionate girl. She’s making good progress with house training. She does her business outside when we take her out frequently, but she’s still working on letting us know when she needs to go out. Such a happy go lucky girl!

9/26/26-Here’s the latest on Dottie. After a week of living with us, Dottie has made herself right at home!  She is an absolute sweetheart.  She loves to be petted and gives us the most gentle tiny kisses when we pet her.  She especially loves to have her chin and neck scratched, she sticks her little nose straight up in the air and gives a little smile to let us know how much she loves it.  She is very affectionate.  She follows us everywhere when we are walking around the house.  Dottie had her pre-spay vet check on September 23rd and was found to be in excellent health. She had excellent manners at the vet office, sat quietly on a lap in the waiting room and let the vet love on her and check her out with no problems at all.  She is doing fantastic with our resident dogs and cats.  She has become fast friends with our pups.  She has started to cuddle with them and is very good at sharing attention and treat time with them.  She has no problem with our cats rubbing up against her, she just stands there and takes their attempts at affection with no reaction.  One of the cats hissed at her and batted a paw at her and she did nothing.  She is getting over her nervousness about the TV when it’s on.  She now settles in with the other dogs when we’re watching it.  She had no problem when we ran the vacuum cleaner.  She definitely needs house breaking, but has only had a few accidents in the house.  We keep a close eye on her and take her out frequently which helps a lot.  She tends to hold it for long periods of time which is likely due to the stress of adjusting to her new living situation.  She is getting better about going outside more frequently every day.  She has not soiled her crate when she is shut in for the day while we are at work or overnight.  Speaking of her crate, she seems to love it.  She goes in there on her own to nap.  When it’s time for us to shut her in her crate, she very easily walks in when we throw a treat to the back of it.  She is a little bit of a picky eater.  She wasn’t eating much of the original dog food that she was given.  We changed her kibble and she loves it, now she eats every bit of it.  Dottie has good manners overall.  She’s calm and so easy going.  She occasionally puts her front feet up on our legs for attention, but is learning “off” pretty quickly.  She whimpers for a minute or two once in awhile when we step out of the house or when she’s first shut in her crate.  She usually quiets right down when we say “no”.  If she was just a little bit taller, she would probably be a counter surfer, but she’s just short enough that she can’t reach what’s on the counter.  She tries to stretch herself up to reach it though!  She did jump straight up in the air once and touched her nose to a bowl that was close to the edge of the counter!   She has started to chew some nylabones and has dragged some toys out of the toy box.  Most of her behaviors are just super cute just like her! Her spay is scheduled for Wednesday October 14th & then she will be ready for her new home.

9/20/26-Dottie’s first night with us was calm and quiet.  She got a little scared when we turned the TV on for the first time.  She went into an adjacent room, popped back in to check out the TV a couple more times, and then quietly went into her crate on her own and slept the rest of the evening.  She did great sleeping in her crate all night, not a peep out of her.  We throw a treat to the back of her crate and she goes right in with no problem. She’s feeling refreshed after a bath this morning.  She definitely didn’t like it and she was squirmy at first, but she settled down after a few minutes.  Her coat is trimmed very short right now, but it appears healthy and looks like it will grow out full and fluffy in no time.  Dottie continues to get along great with our resident dogs and cats.  She has easily joined the pack and walks around with our dogs like she’s been here all along.  She joined them for a walk this morning and did great.  Dottie is slightly hesitant of humans right now, but she has a natural curiosity so she’s willing to try trusting us, especially when we have some favorite treats!  She takes treats from our hands so gently and is not pushy at all.  She does get a little excited for treats and her little tail starts wagging!  She loves to follow us around and she will give us a little bump on the back of our knee with her nose when she wants attention.  So cute! So far, Dottie has not had any accidents in the house.  She seems like she might be used to relieving herself on a hard surface because she doesn’t seem to like the grass and has gone to the bathroom on our paved driveway instead.  We will be working on getting her more used to relieving herself on grass.

9/19/26-Dottie is settling in great. She’s become fast friends with our resident dogs and is tolerating our overly friendly cats as well. She doesn’t love wearing a collar right now but she’s tolerating it. She follows along with the other dogs and is good on a leash.

09/18/26-Miss Dottie is a sweet 3.5 year old Miniature poodle. She came into rescue today from a commercial breeder as they just didn’t need her anymore. Her pre-spay checkup is next Wednesday 9/23 & due to vet backups her spay is Wednesday 10/14. After her spay she will be ready to go to her new home.
