10/09/22-Althea is doing so well! It has been about 3 weeks since she was rescued from her neglected life in a puppy mill. She is still timid and flighty but she has come such a long way in these 3 weeks! Ally has learned to LOVE scratches. She follows me around from room to room to see what I’m doing. She also has been getting excited when I come home. Wagging her little tail and jumping in circles! She is learning that people can be good. She also has started to show her personality, which is frisky and silly. When she comes in from outside now she darts for her water and does a leap and pounce to land in front of it. She is so adorable!
Yesterday we went on a car ride to have a play date with a new doggie friend. She did great in the car. She met a small chihuahua mix. She seems to be more comfortable around smaller dogs and calm bigger dogs. Both dogs were shy so no playing happened, but Althea was checking her out and was not fearful. Her foster fur doggie sisters are a little too rambunctious for her. She shows interest in cats but just a friendly sniff and then moves on.
She stays in her crate while people are away and has started doing the most pitiful howl when she is alone too long.
Potty training is still in progress but she is doing very well with it! Only a couple accidents in the past week.
Althea needs a lot of love to keep learning to trust humans, but she has definitely transformed from the time she came in. You can see it in her pictures! She is patiently waiting to find the right home that will give her that love and support.

9/29/22-Althea has been warming up to me the past couple days! I can tell she wants to be my friend & you can see the fear is leaving her eyes. It is gonna take some time to get her to trust humans after 4 years of neglect in the puppy mill but it will be sooo worth it! If you have a quiet home and patience to continue the work, ask for Althea!

9/25/22-Althea has been in foster care for a little over a week now. Her transition from mill life to home life has been a tuff one for her. She is still very timid and scared. It is very apparent now that she had never or very rarely been touched by a human in her 4 years of life. That is not to say that she has not made some progress. Ally, just in the last couple days, has started getting excited to see me. She will now come up to my hand and give it kisses. She will allow me to pet her without flattening to the ground in fear. It warms my heart to see her progress, even if it is small. She does still run if you face her or with loud noises. She is still not comfortable around strangers. But, it has still been a very short time since her world was transformed. There is so much for her to take in and she is overwhelmed. We are moving at her pace right now.
Althea is still very young and has a lot of energy! She likes to run in the back yard. She spends her free time out of the kennel in the house pacing going from in the kennel to out to take a peek at her new people and back again. She has a lot of nervous energy right now. I can tell once she settles in she will need some play time/walks to burn off some of her energy.
Althea does good with the other two dogs in the house. She is too nervous right now to play but she seems to enjoy them being around and looks to them for guidance. She has showed interest in the cat with friendly sniffs and excited tail but no chasing.
Potty training has been difficult due to her timidness but it’s in progress.
She uses her kennel as her safe spot so she doesn’t mind going in there and has been fine in there while humans are at work.
We would love to see Althea find a forever home that will work with her to show her how to except all the love she deserves! If you can open your heart to this beautiful girl, please apply today!

09/18/22-Althea (Ally for short) came into rescue this past Friday. Another puppy mill momma thrown away after she was no longer useful. She was very scared and is not used to being touched. She has been shaved for reasons unknown (possibly matting or to pass an inspection at the mill) so her beautiful coat is yet to be seen. You can see some beautiful markings on her already. She also is bi-eyed with one blue eye. Her red Merle coat is a very beautiful and rare color.

We will be working on getting her used to family life and showing her what true love is here in her foster home. She has done well with the other dogs in the house and has sniffed the cat without incident. So far she has had no accidents in the house and seems to be interested in checking out all the new surroundings. She absolutely loves running in the back yard! It looked as though she had never been able to do that before. It is still early for her in this new world so her new family will have to be patient as she develops into the spoiled companion she deserves to be after a life of forced breeding for profit. If you would like to adopt Althea please apply today!
