11/9/22-Sprocket is doing so well! No more crying in his crate at night and he is sleeping all night long most nights. Sprocket walks VERY well on a slip leash, so far he has never pulled and is always loose leash.
His tummy is so improved from my last update. The first course of dewormer made such a difference. His forever home will need to finish out deworming with the 2nd course and the last course to be sure the whipworms are gone.
I’d say he’s about 80% house trained with the occasional accident. Another month, if that, of consistency in house training and I would say he’d be golden! He doesn’t have a very good “tell” that he needs to go, so we just take him out every time our other dogs go out, and tell him “go potty”. Sometimes he will pace if he has to go, but he also does that if the water bowl is low or he thinks it’s time to eat.  Lol He is quite smart and I think he would easily pick up any type of pottying cue his forever home would teach him.
I do want to mention that I think he’d be more of a “blanket” dog than a “fluffy dog bed” dog, just due to his disembowelment of one of our dog beds today, haha! Fluff EVERYWHERE. He is a big gentle fuzzball.

I’d say

11/7/22-Sprocket is still so very shy but he is becoming more relaxed around my kids (7 & 11) and will allow them to approach and pet him. This morning we went and met a friend’s cats, her 3-year-old child & a baby was there in a high chair too. Sprocket did great! He didn’t want to chase the cats, but he would sniff them if they let him. He loved the baby in the high chair (because she had “treats”! Lol) and didn’t seem to care one way or another about the younger kids even when they pushed past him.

He would definitely do great going to a home with another young dog he can play with. He does not seem to mind that my young boxer is bouncy off the walls high energy. Sprocket  is a lot more playful now but still seems to be more of a lower energy puppy (part of his breed).  I know he’s still getting in his groove & becoming less shy since coming out of the puppy mill, so things may change some as he adjusts. Overall though he is just a sweet, big boy!

11/3/22-Sprocket really is coming out of his shell today! He has stolen all our Boxer’s toys, was playing tug with her, and went for a lively romp in the yard. It’s the most energy we’ve seen out of him yet!
He did have a vet appointment today and we found that he has hookworms and whipworms so we’re starting treatment for those. Hopefully his tummy will feel better soon once those worms start getting taken care of! He wasn’t sure what to make of the car ride. Lol.
He does seem to have a little bit of separation anxiety at night if he’s not in the same room with us.  He will sleep in his crate fine until I go to bed (which is on a different floor)and within a few minutes he starts pawing his crate and soft woofs. He settles right down once I’m back near him. I think it will improve with time.
His appointment for neuter is November 16th & he will be ready to find his match for a home after that!

11/2/22-Sprocket is definitely taking a while to warm up to everything, but today he did a play bow to our young boxer! He seems comfortable in his crate and will go in there and just hang out with the door open during the day, but seems to get “lonely” overnight still, with multiple wake ups. He quiets down if I sleep on the couch that’s next to his crate. We’re working on it.

He’s been having some major intestinal distress (bloody and mucousy loose stools daily) so as of last night we have changed him to a plain diet of cooked chicken, plain rice, and plain canned pumpkin. He is starting to play with toys a little bit, mostly soft or stuffed toys, and he is a bit naughty with our socks! Sprocket adores socks so we’ve had to be diligent keeping them picked up.

He has his initial appointment with our vet tomorrow morning so we should have a date scheduled for his neuter by end of day tomorrow.

10/26/22-Sprocket is an adorable male 7 month old Standard Bernedoodle (standard poodle/Bernese mountain dog). He was saved from being killed by a  puppy mill just because he became too old for them to sell. He arrived safely into rescue tonight thanks to his transport volunteers. He will need to be neutered before he can find his new home. Updates soon from his foster hom
